El Salvador is as safe as any other big city in the US or elsewhere. You have to be savy and alert but you can definitely manage to have a good and enjoyable time. We are still in our early stages of tourism development and industry so a "DO IT YOURSELF EL SALVADOR" may still be a bit difficult and challenging. Hire a guide or take a tour so that you don't get lost and you can get the insider tip on our local culture and scene :-)

Yes it is safe, but you need to take safety precautions, like not walking alone if it's a lonely place, and/or night.
If you have a very specific place to visit let me know to tell how safe is the area.

Hi. Sure El Salvador is safe. You can travel in San Salvador San Miguel and most cities without problems. I just recommend that you travel with a local or with a guide so that you avoid problem areas in the cities or towns. Also do not wear flashy jewelry or carry expensive items in plain view if you are traveling by foot or in heavily populated places such as markets (city shopping centers are safe). Just like any other Country, there are parts and risky activities that you must avoid.

Yes its safe... The city is big but the good part is that everything is a few minutes away, as other cities there are dangerous areas that you must avoid like downtown late at night, but all nice places like restaurants, clubs, museums, malls, stores, etc. are located a few minutes outside downtown so you can feel safe comming here. Salvadoreans love foreings so you will always find someone who wants to guide you around the city and its beautiful spots.

like any other place in the world there are some things to be consider if you are coming to el salvador, the first one is to have a very knowledgeable person as guide so you can refer to him when you have any questions, this doesnt mean that he has to be on top of you 24/7, you simply use it as a reference, second, you need to consider that it is not recomended to use our public transportation, specialy if you dont speak spanish, that means that you have two choices, etheir you rent a car or have a designated driver for you, this is very useful when you dont know all the nomenglature in el salvador, and third but not least being ready to have fun and enjoy all the beautiful things that el salvador has to offer, from imponent mountains to sunny beautiful lakes and beaches, and if you move around with the correct people i warranty a very very memorable safe trip.

El salvador has not been that popular destination yet, so tourists are very respected, probably common sense of the population that tourism generates lots of incomings. So you can go arround most places and be totally sure nothing is gonna happen, but then again use your common sense.

MAKE SURE YOU GET A HOLD OF SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THE CITY AND SOMEONE WHO CAN REALLY ENTERTAIN YOU ON YOUR VISIT.

Of course it is safe, as in any country in the world there are very good and there are dangerous places. I know New York and philadelphia and there are some very dangerous places, like the best thing here is to investigate where you can be safe and where, before coming! and places you can visit depending on the type of trip you plan

By all means plan your visit to beautiful El Salvador. Don't worry about visas. When you arrive at the airport you can buy your visa for $10.00. Make sure you have a tetanus shot and relax and have a great time with the more than friendly Salvadorans.

Like beaches? Salvador has the cleanest and widest beaches rivaling those of Hawaii. Fishing is incomparable. There is great fresh water and deep sea fishing. I once ran into a school of , at least, 10,000 dolphins. What a show they put on. Three people fished over 500 lbs of tuna and mahi mahi in only 4 hours. We would have caught more but ran out of coolers.

It is impossible to travel anywhere in Salvador without having a volcano in sight. The vegetation is tropical and you will be sampling delicious exotic fruits often too perishable for export.

You will also have your choice of a variety of world class restaurants and shopping.
A qualified guide is a must as is a taxi or a personal driver. The prices are extremely reasonable.

Salvadoran coffee is exported all over the world and is respected and equal to the best in the world.

I have had family and friends declare their time spent in El Salvador was the best vacation they ever had.

I will be happy to make other recommendations, if you like. Just contact me.

El Salvador is different from what it was before we changed, we are growing in tourism and this is our opportunity for us to become known as the beautiful and charming taht it is. As any other country there are good things and bad things but it is safe now and we are trying to provide good security for those who visit us from other countries. We want to leave a good impression and great experience.
