Any russian romance with happy end: "Ne uhodi, pobud so mnoy, zdes tak onradno, tak svetlo..."("not leave me...") - the old romance. Could be found practically in all Russian Romance's publishing collections; "Tolko raz..." ("Only once time..."; modern "Naprasnie slova..." ("The empty words...") from Alexander Malinin's repertuar. You can invite Russian singer with accompanist and they could amuzed the guests all evening. I know so great couple: he is from Estonia - singing just Russian romances - reach voice and very expressive manner of performance. I am his teacher and accompanist, now living in Moscow because of ill parents, but we are performing about6 years, our recent concert will be 8-03-2009 in Estonia and we're preparing the program for Russian Romances competition in Tallinn 2009. We are not caprice stars - sing for music and soul. if it's interested idea (comes to me just now)for you - invite us! will be so glad to share our art with you and your closers and friends.
Best wishes!

Moj laskovyj i nezhnij zver' is a tragic story. though music is beautiful i don't think that it's a good idea

If he likes pop songs this song of SASHA should be a great option. It's called "I simply do need you.." in Russian - Mne prosto ochen nuzhen ty!
mp3ex.net/txt/song/18616.html it's in Russian but there are icons to download the music. Have fun!

It all depends very much on what kind of music your future husband like. What does he regularly listen to at home and in the car? What songs were popular when he was young? Some Russians, especially speaking English and Western-minded, would prefer smth like 'Love me tender' by Elvis Presley rather than a Russian song! It all depends on his personal tastes. Hope it helps.

Agree with Uncle Misha. It's hard to remember any russian song with words suitable for the 1st wedding dance. I would think of 'straingers in thу night' :) However, the waltz from "Nutcracker" of Tchaikovskiy would be just Great !!!

I think this can be nice: - There's so many nice girls by Leonid Utesov - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0s6cPr2Tb0o
The trasnlation is smth like this:
There're so many nice girls,
There're so many gentle names,
But only one of them excites me,
Taking my rest and sleep away when I'm in love.

Love comes accidentally,
when you don't wait for it,
and every night becomes
so wonderfully nice, and you sing:

Heart, you don't need any rest,
Heart, the living's so great,
Heart, you're so fantastic,
Oh, thank you , heart, that you can love like this.

The most famous Russian song is Moscow Nights. Even foreigners know it. Your husband will love it and appreciate the effort you made to prepare this surprise. It also is very romantic and nostalgic. He will be very touched. You can listen to one of the many versions of it on YouTube at the following link:

Good luck,

Oh, I have found this one, sung by a lady who admits this guy is the most wanted, the most beloved. The tune is really great for slow dancing, even if the couple is not aware of some complicated dance moves, this will be just "soul and beauty" dance. I highly recommend this one! The fiance will love it!

I agree with many answers here, I also suggest Viennese Waltz but it's just melody without russian words. I remember one great song: Muslim Magomaev "Wedding"

Alsou "When two hearts are beating together", it's neither fast nor slow, it's romantic and there's NO tragedy. And Muslim Magomaev's "Wedding" as well as "The Black Eyes" will be suitable for more energetic dances =)

Tchaikovski would be wonderful choice but that's quite world wide. The idea to listen to the Muslim Mogamaev's WEDDING (Ах, эта свадьба) is good, there's no a wedding without this song. For your first wedding dance Любимая моя song would do nicely. There are many varianys and indeed this depends on the person. If you could desribe him and his character and habits a perfect option could be found.
Where are you from, by the way?

I agree with Anna. The song by Muslim Magomaev "Wedding" (Svad'ba) is a very good choice! A cheerful song sounding like a Russian folk and a wonderful voice.

There is also an appropriate Russian pop song named "Любовь, похожая на сон" (Love like a dream or Dream-like love) by Alla Pugacheva (Алла Пугачева). This is a sort of a ballad about the happy love.

I guess this song will be good. See the video in youtube.com link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwPC0l4GD7M and this is the lyrics(tranclated)Again the wind of mad changes
Takes you away from me
Doesn’t even leave me
A shadow in exchange
And it won’t ask me,
Maybe I want to fly away with you
Like a yellowish autumn leaf
Like a bird towards the blue hope

Take me with you
I’ll come trough mad nights
I will follow you
No matter what the way predicts me
I will come to where you are
Draw a sun in the sky
Where the broken dreams
Find the strength of the heights again

For how long I’ve been looking for you
Through years
In the crowd of passers-by
Used to think
You’d be forever with me
But you’re leaving
You’re in the crowd now
You wouldn’t recognize me
But as before, loving
I let you go

Take me with you
I’ll come trough mad nights
I will follow you
No matter what the way predicts me
I will come to where you are
Draw a sun in the sky
Where the broken dreams
Find the strength of the heights again

Each time, as soon as
The night falls
On the sleeping city
I run from my insomniac home
Away
Into the cold and sorrow
I’m looking again through the faceless for you
But through the door of a new day
I step once more without you

Take me with you
I’ll come trough mad nights
I will follow you
No matter what the way predicts me
I will come to where you are
Draw a sun in the sky
Where the broken dreams
Find the strength of the heights again

Take me with you
I’ll come trough mad nights
I will follow you
No matter what the way predicts me
I will come to where you are
Draw a sun in the sky
Where the broken dreams
Find the strength of the heights again

Take me with you
I’ll come trough mad nights
I will follow you
No matter what the way predicts me
I will come to where you are
Draw a sun in the sky
Where the broken dreams
Find the strength of the heights again
