I am Monica and I am from Venice. You can go to restaurant La Rosa Dei venti, 2 minutes walk from piazzale Roma, the adress is fondamenta minotto, santa croce 164. they do menus for around 18 euros per person, lots of Venetian go there for dinner. or osteria Antico Dolo, near Rialto. visit my site http://www.monicacesarato.com for more information on Venice

Good morning, well most restaurants close to St Marks can be expensive. I can recommend La Valigia which is an enoteca and they do wine-tasting and dinner. Check out www.tours-venice-italy.com and you can pre-book!

I will not reccomend you a place, but a logic.

Fancy restaurants (large halls, candles, waiter by your table almost permanently) are rare at Venice, no more than 10 I think, a couple of them at San Marco. Don't ask me the prices, I don't want to be responsible of your heart condition aggravation.

All the others are small, tight, little tables of 4 seats, but the seats are just a bit smaller than the table itself.

Tight like hell.

(almost) All have a sort of a menu list outside at the entry to attract clients (scary them rather) with the prices.

If you see a menu costing 15 to 25 euro, be shure you will end up paying at least double if you don't stick to the exact menu exposed.

Quality is never hight, this is Venice, make believe at high prices and low quality.

If the owner and personell is chinese or indian, prices are half, service is better, quality the same, that's all.

As you go from San Marco towards the Arsenal (ask, anybody knows where the arsenal is), the first "bus" stop (where the bus boats dump people) look at your left, there must be a narrow street with stores.

Go on this street, look around on the other little streets connected with, there are nice little cute restaurants of Venice citisens and of chinese/indians, pick the one you like, and may God have mercy on your wallets!
