Last two years November differs the instability. There are two variants. When snow is not present till the end of November and when snow starts to fall in the beginning of month. Usually at this time air temperature -2 \-7 degrees and people go in sweaters and easy jackets, or in shirts and warm jackets.
Variants 1 - snow starts to fall in begin of month. Some kind of cloth - http://www.myalbea.ru/forum/photoplog/images/944/large/1_DSC02061.JPG
Variants 2 - hot november http://www.iskra1917.ru/pointsview/pv_opposition/2005/11/foto/012_6a.jpg
Anyway for the first time it is necessary to take a warm cap as a wind in November cool. Though we have already got used and often we go without a cap ^_^

The weather can be very different but don't worry the temperature is ok. I can compare with the weather in New York in November-December.

Usually foreigners put on funny alaskas =) Well, there are no -20 C degrees frosts and no bears on the streets, so you can take the same things you wear in late autumn and winter if you live somewhere in the same latitude that Moscow is located. Anyway a warm cap/hat and gloves are always needful when it's cold. And warm boots with a good sole too.

as for boots i can say that it would be better to have some leather one, waterproof
among pants it can be jeans
and jacket - it can be sport one if u wear such style. or as u want. it's not so cold actually, just weacher can change and nobody can predict it)))

In November, the weather can be really tricky, it can change from quite warm to very cold and snowy. A windproof jacket could be a good choice, as well as some similar clothing, like for skiing. Personally, I like Columbia wear - like http://www.columbia.com/SubCategory/1/Mens/110/Jackets.aspx - their jackets are usually not too heavy, but at the same time they resist cold and wind. You can also get a fleece jacket to go with it, some solid tracking boots - and you'll be safe. Don't forget a scarf, a hat covering your ears (when it's windy) and a pair of gloves. Anyway, Moscow isn't the coldest place in Russia.

well, as you've already understood from the answers given here, the weather may vary significantly. from my own travel experience i would suggest to take a warm jacket, bc even if it doesnt snow the wind may be VERY cold. as for a hat, personally, i dont wear one in Nov, but, if you enjoy long walks or other kinds of outdoor activities, i would suggest you to take one. just remember - you dont wanna catch cold, therefore - dress warm. unfortunaly, thats all i can suggest, bc the weather IS unpredictable. anyways, i wish you to have a nice stay!

You can buy Russian winter clothing here, it is made specifically for the conditions, you will be supporting the local economy and gaining lots of local knowledge in doing so. Bring as little as you need and buy Russian.

An umbrella, a woolen sweater, a waterproof jacket and boots are a must.
It might even be snow and freezing, rain mixed with snow, ughhh!
November is one of the darkest months of the year with the unpredictable weather.
My advice is to check the weather forecast (on several different websites) before you go and in general dress in layers.

I'll advise you to have a knee-length waterproof coat, couple of sweaters, surely a scarf, a hat and gloves.
About the boots, they should be waterproof, warm and certainly comfortable.
Jeans are ok for November, but you may also bring thermo-underwear just in case.
It was unusually mild in November for Russian in the last past 2 years.

I am sure you need warm clothes, but not too warm, so as last years winter is warmer in Russia. This year wasn't much snow even in St.Petersburg.
Take jacket, some sweaters, scarf, socks, comfortable boots(warm, demiseasons)Jeans, or trouses for autumn(winter),40 den pants, gloves.
