Which Riad should we stay in at Medina in Marrakesh to have an authentic experience?

avatar

We want a genuine Riad with a Hammam or Sauna for a real experience, our duration of stay is 2 nights. Cost's not a matter. What should we do in Marrakesh? Any not to be missed activities? An you recommend an good restaurant?

hello
there are many riads in marrakech. try the palais rhoul which is a 5 star palace hotel located in Marrakech palm grove. transportation to the city center can be easily arranged.

Inside the medina try Riad Idra, Riad Aguerzame or Riyad el Cadi for example.

Several of the city's Riads offer Hammam or Sauna. Now, when it comes to these places being 'genuine' that's another matter. Those places have initially been private homes before having been transformed into hotels of different standards. Of the initial 5000 "mansions" that exist in the walled-in city-or medina- not even 50 had their own hammams just because there were and still are so many public ones (for the really real experience I'd recommend Hammam Elbacha or Hammam 'Dheb). So what you find in those riad hotels are tourism versions of the authentic ones(in this style there's a good public one called Hilton near the CNSS Clinic). For dining inside the medina,Cozy Bar is a great but not so pretentious place.Famous places like Le Comptoir are flashy spots for cheap mundanities and pale trendiness. For great authentic Moroccan food:Dar Marjana.

If price is not important, look at staying in La Sultana, Villa des Orangers or Riad Mehdi. They all offer what you are looking for and are within walking distance from the main square (Jma el Fna) and the souks (traditional markets). Booking an official guide to take you through the old city (medina) might me a good idea as you have only a short stay and probably would not like to get lost exploring by yourself. If you enjoy gardents, try to find a moment to visit the Garden of Majorelle - well worth the effort. You might also enjoy a caleche (horse carriage) ride around the outer walls of the old city. The cost is 100 dirhams per hour for the carriage. Some top restaurants are Le Comptoir, Al Fassia, Le Tanjia, Narwama, Jad Mahal, Tobsil, Dar Marjana, Dar Moha, ... Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Enjoy your stay in the magical city of Marrakech.

Greetings,

Riads are indeed special places to stay while in Marrakech, definitely a good choice of accommodation while in town.

Riad prices go from 50 Euros to 100 Euros for a nice standard riad, double occupancy and with breakfast included, more expensive can be found of course.

Try to get a Riad in the old medina and not outside, basically almost all riads offer hammam & massage services for 40 Euros to 100 Euros depending of the service.

I can advise you a great Riad Guide for Marrakech: google this "best riad marrakech" and check out the 31 best riad guide.

Also directly I can advise you these following riads: Riad Aguerzame, Riad 107, Riad Menzeh and Riad des Droles.

enjoy Marrakech!!!
