I would like to recommand the Quentin Arrive hotel. (check website http://www.quentinhotels.com/Arrive/aboutus.html). A 1 star hotel, good located! Some Dutch hotelbrokers as eg. Hotelstunter.nl has special offers for this hotel, starting with only € 22,- per person per night. breakfast not included, but tax is. Enjoy your stay in Amsterdam. And do consider going down South and visit my hometown Breda!

Here's a few relatively affordable hotels (not hostels) in the city that my guide thinks are recommendable:
www.rookies.nl
(very near to Leidseplein, above their coffeeshop)
double room €80-€100

www.abbabudgethotel.com
Overtoom 122 (busy street next to Vondelpark)
double room €45-€80

Princess
Overtoom 80, +31(0)20-612 29 47
double room €60-€65

www.hotelcrystal.nl
2e Helmersstraat 6
double room with shower €80

www.the-greenhouse-effect.com
Warmoesstraat, redlight district
double room €95

www.winston.nl
Warmoesstraat, redlight district
double room €56-€88

www.hotelgroenendael.com
Nieuwendijk 15, centre
double room €50, triple €75

www.hotelaspen.nl
Raadhuisstraat 31
double room €50, triple €85 and up

Regarding going out venues, there's more in a generic profile with offtrack Am*dam-info that I maintain:

hotel princess or hotel crystal are cheap, but clean and nice and near to the real centre, the leidse plein, If you come during the week (not friday or saturday) you do not have to make a reservation at all. Amsterdam is feeling the recession, so there are lots of rooms available during weekdays. Even 5 star hotels dump their rates to under 100 euro....princes or crystal will be around 50 euro with breakfast for 2 persons. In the weekend, prices are a bit higher. As a rule, Hotels in Amsterdam are really good, only the rooms are very small. www.booking.com is a good website to see all prices and reviews from almost all hotels in Amsterdam..

have a good trip and hope I helped

About the hotels you already got some great advice.
A nice lunchplace is Tony's New York Bagels in the Jodenbreestraat (close to the Fleemarket). One of my favourite restaurants is Los Pilones in the Kerkstraat, a original Mexican restaurant! If you want to be adventurous go to the Jordaan (just 'outside' the centre of town). You will find there dosen of restaurants and small pubs.

Are you still in Amsterdam?
Check out the Nieuwmarkt for nice bars etc., that is where the real locals go.

Hi, this is a follow up and if you will be kind to reflect, it will also be great to know how your stay in our country became? Will you be back soon and visit more places in Holland?
