There you go... with Eva, brilliant suggestion and I can't agree more 2B honest ...;) B4 reaching Breda, you may like to stopover by the Hague (thats my Royal place) and I may be glad to show you about... starting with fresh dip-fried catch like Cod snapped out from the North Sea and its a great treat to test-taste yr buds by the beach side we have called Scheveningen. Let me know soon... cos I'm leaving thru R'dam soon cruising over the Pond and go watch/meet Tina Turner at the O2 in London ... I just received word on my 2 VIP seats from Promoter friend at the 11th hour despite tickets are SOLD OUT around Europe for the last 6 months... Whoaaahhh... what luck I'm in for this trip.;)

Hi Lorraine,

You might go visiting the Central Park of Amsterdam, that's De Vondelpark. You can visit the most modernic stadium and largest in Holland.

It's pretty hard to guess what you'd like to do since the question is a broad one. Filling out your profile would help others with their suggestions. There are certain themes that can be created for you to have a fun time in Amsterdam. You'll also have to include how many days you'll be in Amsterdam and what period. Then fun events can also be suggested.

To experience amsterdam from a different angle, I suggest you to stay in a small B&Bor hotel outside the centre. A really nice area is DE PIJP. Hotels are cheaper there. A lot of students live in this neighbourhood, there are a lot of cafees and bars....biggest streetmarket of europe...and still close to all the famous tourist attractions, which are worth paing a visit too. If you like history, your visit makes probably a bigger impression if you scan the internet before coming to Amsterdam. In the most unexpected places you find historical sites in Amsterdam...also a lot not known by most tourists....but the important thing is: CENTRAL STATION IS NOt the real centre of the city. (look at the map) I hope you will have a nice stay when you are coming beye for now

Hi Lorraine :)
Pardon my belated reply to yr valid query and I noticed some had already jumped in to help out... Great and perhaps some had already answered to your q'n and I hope it meets yr satisfaction.

My tip for you is to read (Google) up if you can on Amsterdam and have all the time in preparation on what you wish to know on this bustling City and its immediate surroundings. We as "tourists ourselves" do this as a rule to be adequately prepared apart from the language which some will include classes for that extreme.

Once you are fairly certain on what is awaiting your arrival as a default linked to the location(s), you can let me know as to how I can help you with whatever more you wish to apply, I'll do what there is to help your visit an exciting or thrilling experience to achieve it.

For every country I went to, I apply differently and it should be said, you enhance your will to experience your scope left only to your imagination by creative empowerment.
I was away the whole day at the RAI where the Household Trade Fair is currently organized. Discovered the awesome new taste in GinSeng Coffee and bought a new Dutch invention that relates to Laundry Rack that does away to those nuisance pegs, Yes, I bought one myself... awesome!!!
Cheersch to you... Gun.

Amsterdam is such a large and diverse city that it's tough to make a list of the must-see's and must-do's in the town. The best way to experience Amsterdam is to not be afraid to leave the beaten path a little bit. I wouldn't suggest going down just any dark alley you might come across, but definitely go to the neighborhoods surrounding the city center. Jordaan, De Pijp, and De Oud-West are my personal favorite parts of town, mostly just because of the shops and stores that are open during the day. Just be willing to explore, and I guarantee that you will find some little part of Amsterdam that you will fall in love with.

My option would be, just leave our capital, take the train down South and visit my hometown Breda. I can make a nice tailermade tour for you in lovely Breda and/or surroundings.

Out of the normal things to do is visit the different daymarkets we have, like the Albert Cuyp, the Dappermarkt, Ten Katemarkt. Rent a bike to go to these markets and after visiting them go and have a walk in the neighbourhoods of these markets. Find online information about the Amsterdam School, a style of architecture that arose from 1910 through about 1930. We have nice examples of this style in Amsterdam. Or go to the Jordaan, an other nice area, just outside the centre of Amsterdam, with nice little shops, small restaurants and cafe's. If you send me more specifics of what kind of things you like it makes it more easy to advice you in things to do out of the ordinary.

First of all, get yourself a bike. Nothing is better than seeing things a little faster. After all, Amsterdam is a large place. Then I recommend you get off the bike when you see something nice. Otherwise is just bike.

Also if you want to do something really original, you can come to the East of Holland and chill with the Kraakers. (see my page)

P.s. You can rent a bike from me :)

If you want to see things that other tourists don't and have the full dutch experience rent a bike and get lost in Amsterdam on it. Take the free ferry behind central station and explore the north or head east to the new islands.
