Russian and Ukrainian are quite complicated languages. I as linguist assure you that it is not posible to learn them via Skype in 3 months. The best advice for you is to buy a phrase-book and to study it before the trip.

It is depending on the region of Ukraine where are going to travel - some of them are mostly Russian speaking and some are - Ukrainian

i consider it's possible to learn a foreign language just by talking and listening to native speakers, but you do need to have basic knowledge before arriving. i have 2 french friends whom i taught decent Russian just by talking to them

what u need is to learn to communicate - which means phrases, phrases, and phrases!
there is no way u can learn Russian grammar in 3 months... besides u dont really need it.
i'd been learning Spanish grammar for many years, but i couldnt speak. the breakthrough day was when i was in mexico and had problems at customs - i learnt to speak VERY fast that day =)

Russian language is different from Ukrainian! 3 month is not enough to learn it. You can learn some frases and it will be already hard :)

You should make a decision and to start from one language. There are quite differences between these two languages, especially in grammar. 3 months is a quite short term. So, choose one first.

"to learn language" is always a little bit complicated if you do it not face to face with somebody who knows it. I think you have to chose what you need to know before you come and it depends on how much time you have. And then you'll try to make your "local language" :) better in Ukraine.
