What to see and do in Mauritius
Pamplemousse Botanical Garden
There is a huge variety of trees and plants. If you are really interested in botany you can get a guide at the main entrance who will give you a guided tour.
Quatre Bornes Sunday Market :. Its one of the best places to buy cheap clothes, footwear, jewellery, souvenirs, almost anything.
Glass factory: you can see Hand impressions of some famous people and also see how they blow glass. You can buy souvenirs.
Blue bay is a very beautiful place and has the clearest and bluest water in all Mauritius hence the name. Glass bottom boat is the main attraction here and a must do. There were hardly any tourist there (you can even hand-fed the fishes with some bread).
La Vanille Crocodile and tortoise park. The park is really beautiful and you feel like you are walking in a jungle. A park guide will be more than happy to show you around (no charge). It has many animals (most of them in enclosures). You can walk around the tortoise in their enclosure and touch and feed them. La Vanille has lots of crocodile (some really huge ones), iguanas, monkeys, turtles, bull frogs and even an insectarium. You can even get a picture taken of you holding a baby crocodile.
A stop at Gris Gris. Gris Gris is the south of the island and the view from there is breathtaking. You can see miles and miles of sea from the cliff that you are standing on. If you are lucky you can even see dolphins.
Catamaran Cruise and visit to Ile Plate (island).
The Package included –, drinks and barbecue on the catamaran, snorkeling and a visit to Ile Plate
Visit to Chamarel falls and colored earth, Black river gorges park, Alexander falls, Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) and Trou aux cerfs.
Grand Baie is a tourist spot as you will find lots of shopping, restaurants, pubs etc. Grand Baie Bazaar is a very good place to buy cheap clothes, footwear, jewellery, souvenirs, almost anything..
Ile aux Cerfs Beach is located around the island that sits within the lagoon near the town of Trou d'Eau Douce. You can get to Ile aux Cerfs by boat. We took a package deal, the package include Barbecue, lobster, drinks and transfer to and from Ile aux Cerfs.
I will also be happy to reply to any queries, please feel free to contact me on www.taximauritius.com or send me a private message or an email.
Cheers,
Carine.

There are a variety of touristic attractions and ecotourism magnificence available on the island, from the sun-sea-beach to our nature (we are quite valued by the United Nations, some of our parks and places now belong to them, lol) to our religious places, from which all cultures have now merged, where people from different cultures and religions live next door to each other..
Sun Sea Beach oh yeah, one of the best on earth: you have Blue bay, Pereybere, La Cuvette (capriciously concealed, cos it's too much of a beauty).. try the Glass bottom and the catamarans;our islets are practically everywhere around the country: ile ronde (you heard about sharks sleeping? there are only two places on earth where they actually 'sleep' (sleep?) and reproduce peacefully; the other one is found near the isle of man, near UK)
Some seas where you cannot bathe but simply admire the rage and fury of the sea, but the latter can touch you are Gris Gris, Le Souffleur, and other places bound to the south of the island
Nature is perpetually everywhere from Pétrin to Macchabé to La Vanille Crocodile Park. All three of our mauritian localytes gave you quite nice elaborate descriptions and they are all true, for real;
These days, religiously speaking, we just had Thaipoosam Cavadee, a tamil festival, it's a beauty in participating in the kovils(listening to the prayers, some of them are actually in pure sanskrit, with priests from india), and watching (and eating as well :P) Now we are going to have the Maha Shivaratree, where pilgrims will walk from all over the island, peacefully, from all religions to celebrate and venerate the Hindu God Shiva, and know more about Him..
Well, just to brief you, we have loads, loads, and loads here; it actually depends on the package that's being offered to you, if you know what I mean
hope you had a glimpse, i didnt know there were so many mauritian localytes and all their descriptions are true and valid..

Mauritius has plenty of tourist attractions and ones cannot be bored here. You must have a good guide, first of all, there is the beaches, preferably in the north west, where is found PEREBAIRE, MONT-CHOISI, and so on, in the centre there is attraction like narural park where one can go for adventure or to relax, and of course in Mauritius you can enjoy shopping.

something we all need to know, like you also need to know: you cant do everything in one go, and it also depends on how long you are staying and where you would like to stay
for instance, if you stay in the middle of the country, well, you'll be accessible to go everywhere easily.. but you will need a means of transport
the best places to stay, i personally think, if you want to enjoy the beaches and nature parks and reserves are the northern and western parts of the country
most of the wonderful places mentioned by my fellow localytes are listed in the north or the west; what priscille mentioned about sea sports are usually done in the north and west of mauritius (and safer as well)
that depends on what you actually want..
so im going to ask you "what is it you want? ^^"

I second le banana in grand baie as well; shooters at le caudan is not bad =\ but, my personal opinion? not as good as le banana, the food might be nice to those who havent tasted good food in the country, but you know what changed my perception at le banana? the customer relations there and the service: customer relations are much much better at le banana, and that counts a lot for a tourist, even for a local... though it depends on the tastes of people

Grand Bay
Grand Bay was the first area of the island to fully experience the tourist boom. A shopping and leisure paradise, Grand Bay also happens to be the area where Mauritians head for when they want a fun-filled night out (restaurants, bars and discos). Recently renovated, La Cuvette beach is well worth a visit.
Pereybère
The wonderful Pereybere public beach is popular because of its shopping facilities, restaurants and pubs.
Balaclava Ruins
A few metres away from Baie aux Tortues, which 17th century sailors named after the many tortoises in the area, can be found the ruins of the old Balaclava estate. Visitors will be able to see the sea walls, whose initial foundations were laid down by Mahé de Labourdonnais.
The Waterpark Leisure Village
Enjoy unforgettable moments sliding on the giant chutes, with family or friends. Relaxation and pleasure guaranteed.
Ile aux Cerfs
Ile aux Cerfs is a paradise for water sports and has the most beautiful beach in Mauritius. You cannot afford to miss this tiny island, delicately poised on the ocean, a real pearl in the Mauritian landscape.
Souillac
A small seaside resort along the rugged coast of the Savanne district. A famous feature is the garden overlooking the sea and named after Dr. Charles Telfair. A popular viewpoint is found at the southern end of the village, right on the cliff top : Gris Gris.
Domaine du Chasseur
Nestling in the Anse Jonchée hills, the Domaine des Grand Bois has splendid hunting grounds covering an area of 900 hectares. Stags, monkeys and boars live amidst the luxuriant vegetation of the hillside. One can watch a few species of endangered birds, including the kestrel. The Domaine contains four thatched-roof bungalows and a restaurant with a panoramic sea view. Take an opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal of venison and seafood.
Dutch Ruins
At Vieux Grand Port, the oldest settlements in Mauritius, you can see the ruins of the first Dutch fortifications. Excavation work is underway in a bid to uncover an important part of Mauritian history.
Ile aux Aigrettes
Owing to the remarkable work accomplished by the Mauritius Wildlife Fund, the island has become an international standard for the protection of natural resources and endangered species. A few of the world’s rarest birds, including the kestrel, can be seen there. You can also discover the extremely rare Pink Pigeon, the Green Gecko Phelsuma and the Aldabra giant tortoise.
Mahebourg
Mahébourg is one of the main fishing villages on the island. Built on the magnificent Grand Port Bay it was founded in 1804 by the French G
Martello Towers
The Martello Towers represent the scene of the ancient rivalry between old colonial powers and the ingenuity of mankind. They are a milestone in the island’s history; they symbolise the end of slavery and the beginning of Indian immigration.
Casela
Situated in the Rivière Noire district, the bird park stretches over 25 hectares and contains more than 140 bird species from all five continents. Other attractions include fish ponds, tigers, tortoises, monkeys, deer and orchids.
Chamarel
A winding road leads from Case Noyale village to the coloured earths of Chamarel: an undulating landscape of different and contrasting shades of colours. The different shades of blue, green, red and yellow are apparently the result of the erosion of the volcanic ash. The neighbouring waterfalls of Chamarel rise from the moors and the native plant life. The site possesses a rare beauty.
Some «Table d’hôtes» have been recently created in the Chamarel Village where you can enjoy the taste of typical Mauritian cuisine.
