Hi man, look, take this advice from who has been diving for 19 years and has virtually dived the whole coast of Brazil and has done over 1,000 dives. These guys here don't know what they're talking about!

In Rio:
Arraial do Cabo and Buzios are in fact the best diving area from the state of Rio de Janeiro downwards to southern Brazil- but NOT (much less by far) the best in Brazil. But not just any dive point, you have to go to Ilha da Ancora (Anchor Island), don't forget this name! Get out of your way to get there, forget about any other place.

Forget Angra dos Reis or Ilha Grande - they're, at the very most, OK.

In Sao Paulo:
The best divesite by far is Laje de Santos, a tiny island 40km off the coast of Santos. You have to hire the services of a scuba dive operator.

Forget Sao Sebastiao or Ilha Bela: they're also, at the very most, OK

email me if you have difficulties sorting it out. xaliba@gmail.com
i can be your diving escort if you want
cheers

By far, the best place to dive in the Brazilian Continental Shore is Arraial do Cabo, about 2 and a half hours driving north of Rio.

The best place to go is called Ilha Grande and is close to Angra dos Reis, in Rio de Janeiro state, you have to take Rio-Santos road. If you can't go there, try Ilha Bela in São Paulo state.

Dear traveller,

I am not a especialist on that but i have been searching for you and i found those information below.

São Paulo --> You can go in a city called "São Sebastião", however, you have to take a Ferry to cross to an island Called "ilha Bela". It´s easy to get there, if you have a rental car, you can just read the road signs, or even you can ask for any brazilian road police. There are many Hotels where you can stay even in one day.

Rio de Janeiro --> Angra dos Reis is the best choice.

PS> Try to not ask for anyone stopped on the Road !! It´s a little bit risky.

I hope those information can help you.

Bye and Good Luck !!!

Hi, we live in ilhabela and there are great spots to dive. A few Islands off shore and many ship wracks.... Ilhabela is a beautiful island south of ILha grande, around 3 hours, between Rio/ Sao Paulo. We have a small B&B and would be happy to help you booking and or arranging your dive. You can check www.colonialdiver.com.br , they do courses and the shipwracks. Regards, silvia and tom

If you kave only one day, see if you really hava to come to S. Paulo, because the best places to dive is far from the city of S. Paulo - three hours at least! So, you can stay in Rio de Janeiro and try some places like Arraial do Cabo and Ilha Grande.
