Hi there. Great choice by the way for choosing Mauritius as your honeymoon destination :) loads of hotels do cater for honeymooners and one of my 1st choice for you would be the Sugar Beach Resort. The beaches are fabulous and they offer romantic touches for honeymooners such as flower on your bed.. Candlelight dinner on the beach, sunset cruise etc to mention a few of the activities the hotel could organise. For a 7 night stay this could be about $2000- $3000 depending on the room type and your date of stay.. places of interest there are many there are adventure parks on the island- safari the sugar beach do organise that too and we are reputed for our pristine sandy beaches...we'll tke you there.. Isle aux cerfs..la cuvette..are jst a few to mention.Tell me what you would like specifically and when you are planning your trip. Ruddy

Hello Sir,

My company is in the position to put together a fantastic honeymoon experience. My advice is to choose a hotel for honeymooners so that you dont have kids running and screaming around you. For hotel stays you may obtain very good quotes all inclusive on the net or through companies like thompsons tours, however if you would like a stay that is more tailored to your tastes, then Horizon Holidays would be happy to assist. Should you require a specific quote please do not hesitate to contact me on sebastien@horizon.mu

Yes you have made the right choice...but we are actually during the raining season and hottest season which means lot of humidity and cyclones too....the best time to visit Mauritius is end of April- May or September-October when it's less hot but don't worry you will still have the sun...
If you have a big budget for an extra you may even take a trip to Rodrigues Island which is 45 minutes by plane from Mauritius and go the Cotton Bay Hotel

In answer to your question 'where to stay', Mauritius has more than its' fair share of amazing hotels. Tourist hotels (as opposed to business hotels) can be found all around the coast and although Mauritius is a relatively small island, travelling times between places can vary enormously, especially around rush hour. If you are looking for tranquility and relaxation I would suggest one of the hotels in District Savanne (Shanti Ananda, Movenpick, Tamassa etc) as this is currently undeveloped when compared to tourist centres like Flic en Flac and Grand Baie. If you fancy a more lively time then I would recommend an hotel in the north in or around Grand Baie. If you don't really care where you stay and have little interest in leaving the hotel (it is your honeymoon after all) then perhaps one of the hotels situated at Le Morne might be a good choice (Le Paradis, Dina Robin, Indian Resort etc).

You might decide to choose accomodation based on activities you want, if you fancy kite surfing then it has to be around Le Morne, if shopping is your thing then Grand Baie but please remember that you can expect to pay tourist prices in tourist centres.

You should also be aware that from the 1st March this year, it is illegal to smoke or drink alcohol in public places, except in authorised locations.

As an idea to the amount of spending money you might require, the Government require any visitor has at least $55 per person per day should they wish to extend a visa and stay longer but you would not need anywhere near this much to enjoy yourself, especially if you had an All Inclusive Package with the hotel. The best restaurants on the island will cost about the same as a very good restaurant in most other countries, a taxi for the day might cost around $30 but tourist activities cost tourist prices, the more you would like to do, the more money you will need obviously but nothing is overly expensive.

A lot of hotels have special rates and services for honeymoons, check out their websites (there is a map here showing most of the major hotels around the island, Google the hotel, go to their homepage and check out any special offers, you might be pleasantly suprised - http://www.mauritiustouroperators.com/map-hotels.php)

Hi there,

My wife and I actually had our honeymoon here 12/13 years ago, so I can comment, but only in terms of our experience. When we had our honeymoon here we stayed at The One & Only resort of Le Touserok, which the year before was voted the best hotel in the world.

All I can say is that if you have the budget (and I haven't got a clue what they charge today) you should really, really look towards having the honeymoon package there (assuming they still deliver the service excellence they did 12/13 years ago - unfortunately living here precludes us from being back as by Mauritian standards it is quite an expensive exercise to go there for a week....)

We had 8 days and were treated like absolute royalty. The 1st night we had rose petals scattered in the shape of a heart on our bed. For one evening we were invited to a private beach party with the manager and staff right on the beach and a few other guests. Another night we were treated to our own private, on the beach with personal waiter and personalised menu's, dinner for two - just the two of us, with our own private waiter and menu's with our names on - WOW, what an experience (to this day my wife has those two menu's which she kept as a keepsake to remind us).

All I can say is that, from my personal experience, albeit some time ago, I can highly recommend Le Touserok... I know there are other Localytes that are directly involved in the travel game and they may be better to answer on current standards but from my point of view I can honestly say that for my honeymoon, and I know my wife feels the same as we still talk about it today 12/13 years on, the One & Only experience at Le Touserok was - well no wonder they call it One & Only...

Regards,

Len
PS - I did actually play a round of golf at the One & Only a few months back - named so cause it's the only golf course on its own island and all I can say is that the service was exceptional - so if that was the golf I guess the the hotel is maintaining its high standards... :)

PPS - I hope you and your bride to be have a great time and truly have a memorable experience on the island of Mauritius whilst on honeymoon...

PPPS - if you can afford it I would STRONGLY suggest you include a helicopter transfer to and from the airport as part of the Le Touserok experience (if of course you decide to stay there) - trust me on this - it MAKES the experience - I won't go into details - some things are best left unsaid....

Hi, well Mauritius is definately the place to enjoy a romantic event such as your honeymoon. Firstly though the important thing is your budget. There is no problem in finding accomadation, car rental, activities etc. Would you like a 5 star hotel or something more casual? Or maybe you'll even prefer your own appartment/bungalow? All my family live abroad and half like staying in hotels but then again the other half prefer there own space in appartment or bungalows. Pls give roughly what your budget is as then it'll be easier to know exactly what your looking for. Regards Danielle

Hello, first of all I must congratulate you for having asking the right question at the right place.. I hope that you will be able to take the proper decision with the numbers of advice that you have got. One advice that I can give you is that actually many hotels are giving discounts... Concerning where to stay it depend what kind of places will suit you.. If you like beautiful beaches, night life you can consider the north or western region specifically Flic-En-Flac.. However the eastern part of Mauritius is also beautiful and more peaceful.. Concerning activities you intend to do during your stay you can have a look of some of our activities - Mauricesoleil. You can have a look at one of our excursion - "ilot Flamants" (Flamingo Island) which is one amongst our many exclusive activities. Many honeymooners have rated it as the best Romantic outing they done. Hope I have helped you and do not hesitate to ask me question.

If you choose a hotel in the north and north west you would be close to the resort town of Grand Baie with its shopping, bars restaurants, supermarket, internet cafe, and even nightclubs.

If you go west you will be near Flic en Flac, smaller than Grand Baie but with the same facilities.

East and south you are more isolated, with no public transport (bus) and limited infrastructure, so that might not suit you.The east is cooler because of the prevailing south easterly trade winds.

North you have: Le Mauricia, Merville, les Cannoniers, club Med..
West you have La Pirogue, Sugar Beach, Taj Exotica, Sofitel, Hilton and The Sands..

For things to do and see visit this link www.taximauritius.com

Regards,
Carine.

There is public transport in the South but you will have further to travel. The South is certainly less developed but is in my humble opinion, the most beautiful part of a beautiful place.

And he is perfectly taking care of his guests, like you expactet in his Hotel.Happy honeymoon Best wishes

Hi there.
You used a very important word in your question "budget". Concerning that it will all depend on your choice of accomodation and also who you deal with!
To my opinion I would advise you to rent a little bungalow not so far from the beach with all infrastructures in a close neighbourhood. This option will allow you to put more into available activities over the island. There is quite a lot to discover over here.
There is also another possibility which I won`t write here and will ask you to contact me by mail for more info timoricien@yahoo.fr.

If I can help you out in anyhow feel free to contact me and I`ll also guide you to well established companies offering interesting excursions.

Cheers for now and take care

Bilaal. ;-)
