Ilha Bela is a great resort area. A hotel might be a good business to open there. However, you will need capital to do so. Real estate is not cheap there. Like everywhere else, locals will welcome you if you are bringing some kind of improvement or income.

I know you posted this thread such a long time ago!!! But if you need a cheaper option in Paraty, you should go to Pousada do Ramiro, right in the Main Church Square, Praça da Matriz.
Dona Geisa will treat you like a family member, for more info please write to me, my email is donrafainrio@yahoo.es

To work in brazil it's easy if you're willing to do cash in hands jobs. However, if you want to open a hostel, that'll have to be by the book if you don't want to risk eventually losing your business, therefore you have to look into all the necessary paperwork. Try the brazilian embassy or the consulate for info in your country.

Hi Giacomo, I 've been studyin the Ilhabela's laws to a concourse and i can assure you the legislation there is very rigourous because the island has 90% of its land as a reserve... so, I think a hostel there will be wellcome but you 'll need a good money , every thing there is very expensive, the tourism there is class AAA. It s better get some more information with the embassy. Good luck

Ilhabela isn't big so it won't be hard to find good information on the internet. There's a good place to stay, in Pereque, called Pousada Caiçara. In case you need something more reasonable, try renting a house for a day or more. Try this site: http://www.aluguetemporada.com.br/scripts/imovel-list.cfm?Cidade=IlhaBela
Regarding your question about opening a business, try going to a imobiliaria there or google imobiliaria ilhabela and you'll find several imobiliarias sites, where you might find a location for rent or for sale. Good luck!!

Hi, I have an aunt who lives there and has a guest house in the island. She has lived in the US and you can communicate easily with her. Language can be a barrier in Brazil, but we are friendly towards foreigners. Her e-mail is "Suzana Costa" ,
Have a nice trip.

Hi Giacomo,
We have been living in the island for the past year and a half. We ran a B&B and I am not sure if there is already a hostel around, there are for sure hundreds of Pousadas...from the very expensive to the cheapest ones. Our place is a giant garden, if our house and 3 suites around the garden, we serve breakfast too. Prices are around R$120 per couple with breakfast.Ilhabela is quite top of the market, so food and rent can be quite expensive, but the working population is big too so there is a bit of everything.
You can easily stay without a car, there is a good enough bus service, taxis and also trips to the wild parts of the island that you can do by boat or jeeps.
If you are planning to come down to check out, you are welcome to contact me. I can help you! Where are you coming from? There are foreigners around, brits, americans, argentines, germans... lets be in touch. silvia

As for options of hotels , tours and maps of the island I suggest doing research on internet and contacting some pousadas to ask for further information , and as for opening a buisness in Brasil and specifically in Ilha Bela , it is expensive and need to contact an accountant locally to explain all the burocracy behind being authorised to open ahostel , then also need to contact some person locally which I cannot help from where I live , but you can find out there , someone like a lawyer to follow your procedures to obtain a residencialpermanent visa for brasil whithoy which you would become a clandestine after maximum 6 months of stayng without leaving Brasil , and you are not allowed to open even a Bank account in Brasil without....
Good luck

Brazilians in general are very open and friendly towards foreigners. But in order to open a business in Brazil, you have to get your legal documents and visa allowing you to do so. Or if you´re single you can marry a beautiful Brazilian and this will make things easier for you to get the work permit.
