If you are talking about Mechapa near the Volcano Cosiguina (there are two Mechapa's - the other is near Esteli) - you are looking at a small fishing village on the Pacific Ocean with lots of fresh fish, lobster, shrimp and an amazing 20 mile long beach that is virtually deserted. Even people living in Chinandega (only 1 hour south by car) don't know about us! We own the only hotel on the beach, Redwood Beach Resort. Here, you can arrange a fishing boat, a guide to hike the Volcano Cosiguina, horseback ride through the wetlands or on the beach, hunt crabs at night (our specialty!), or just relax on a hammock and enjoy the simple life.
Hope this helps!
Stacy
