yes sure you can
but if you need to know directions very well
and also need to take it from the start of the line so it won't be so crowded (not all lines are crowded all the time)
you can ask where exactly you want to go and people tell you what is the best puplic transportation you can take

of course you can go around the city using public transportation. Just sometimes you can feel confused of the the crowd or you can be surpirsed that buses don't stop at the station and you need to run. More about transportation in Cairo you see on our webiste:

Hi - the answer is certainly yes. The metro has two lines, both run sort of north south and so certainly don't cover all the city. Larger public buses are everywhere but you might need help finding the right ones - they don't usually have anything to say where they're going - just a man standing on the steps shouting out - and often they don't completely stop - you get on and off at the run :-) So you do need to know where you're going really... then there's the microbuses - crazy drivers but there's plenty of them and they go all over... again, someone just shouts out where it's going :-)

SO it's possible (and very cheap) but not always so easy...

best of luck

Lyndall
