Yes, you can get a permit like in the US. Its called "Licencia Juvenil" and it authorizes you to drive cars or motorcycles. You need your parents consent and insurance for third party accidents. You can get this licence when you are 15 years old and it expires when you turn 18. At a18 you need to get a normal drivers licence. There's also an international drivers licence that is easier to get if you are a foreigner. You can get all of these in Sertracen. But if you have a drivers licence already, it is valid here as well and that way you don't go through any paperwork. Just drive carefully, because driver's here tend to be aggressive and hardly pay any attention to road signs.

The transit regulations state that SALVADOREANS can get a Driving License at 16, with a special insurance. But yopu must be salvadorean to do it. If you are not a local, then you bether get your licens back home and you can drive here, your licens will be valid for one month or so.

The law states that you can apply for an apprentice drivers license if under the age of 18 and above 15 and a half, and you require a signing patron adult to be responsible for you and a full minor driver insurance, the process is not a hassle and if applied right wont take long, and the fact about being a foreigner doesnt affect the solicitation. But like already stated down below, if you have a intl drivers license that should be enough.

Officialy you can have a full driver license at 18 years, below that from 15 to 18 you can obtain an aprenttice driver license, it can be tedious to obtein it, my recomendation is that you tramit an international drivers license to have no troubles, in any case your US license is valid here but the international one will be better.

In El Salvador you can get a driver's license from the time you're 15. But you have to tramit a special insurance that prrotects third-party from accidents you m ight provoke. I don't know if that applies to foreigners, though.

You can always be young and rebellious and just not have one hahahah.
I drove about three years without one and had no problems, just as long as you don't openly race or stuff like that. Cops here are not that sophisticated, they wouldn't know that an infraction was being made even it bit them on the face LOL
