Hello, Transilvania is a very nice place to visit and Sibiu is one of the most beautiful cities in Romania. So from Bucharest to Sibiu the trip takes 4-5 hours (maximum). I haven't stay in Sibiu but i think is better to find cheap accomodation near Sibiu, there are a lot of small villages nearby. The views are incredible near Sibiu and the locals are very kind. I'm sure that in Sibiu almost everybody knows english (especially the young people) but i don't know about the people in the small villages but they will do their best to help you :) In Romania de gasoline and the gas are almost the same as price, somewhere between 3 and 4 RON per litre (3 RON=1$ and 4 RON=1 EUR). I hope my message was helpful and don't hesitate to ask me about anything you want to know. Have a nice trip, Andreea :)

Q. How long is the trip with not very fast car from Bucharest to Sibiu?
A. Some portions of the road are not very good, so I think it will take more than normal (~5 hours), around 5-7 hours.
Q. Is there easy to find cheap places for accommodation?
A. Yes, as Andreea said, near Sibiu in small villages or towns. If you wish, I can give you the contact details for a very good and cheap place in Talmaciu, 18 km from Sibiu.
Q. Is there many people talking english there and someone to help you?
A. In the place I told you above, there is a Christian community with young people who can help you with translation and all you need.
Hope this helps. Need details, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hi there! I'm an expat living in Romania for 7 years. I've traveled throughout the country and currently live in Bucharest.
Bucharest-Sibiu is 4-6 hours driving depending on the road conditions (rain or snow will slow it down) and the time of day (it's an international truck route with some mountainous terrain, so if you get stuck behind a truck, you may be slowed down)
It is fairly easy to find inexpensive places to stay in Sibiu and in neighboring villages. There are hotels, Bed & Breakfasts and pension houses that are run by locals (fun to stay here, good food and cheap, usually!).
Andreea is right about the cost of gasoline and diesel. Approx $1/1 Euro per litre.
Sibiu is rather touristic (it was one of the European Cultural Capitals in 2007), so you'll find people speaking English, German and French without much trouble.
Let me know if I can help route your tour, hire a car or translator, or help with reservations.
Best,
Michele

Hello, i suggest you check online too for accomodation. As for english, they do speak some, but not perfect or fluently, enough for tourists to get the idea..it's a gorgeous place, but you should be very much aware of local people trying to trick you in all matters, especially money.

Hello Nelly, a car trip from Bucharest to Sibiu can take roughly four hours, with an average speed of 90-110km/h outside villages and cities and 50-60km/h inside them. The scenery is great and the time flies, so it worths the ride. The gas and gasoline prices vary from 75 to 85 eurocents per litre. It's easy to find good accomodation in Sibiu, a lot of people talk english, just ask around, people are very friendly and willing to help you out.
I recommend that you buy a road map of Romania and travel from Sibiu to Sighisoara, it's like 90km, 1 hour ride, you must see the Drummer of Sighisoara's Citadel and the Citadel Guard, have fun! :)

It should take around 5-6 hours by car, depending on how crowded the road would be. But it is worth it going by car, the scenery around Sibiu is great! The city has a charming medieval look, and wonderful surrounding landscapes. To know it in a proper way you should walk as much as you can:-) Do not miss the Old Town and the Citadel, also try to visit the Brukenthal Museum, the second best museum in Romania after the National Museum of Art in Bucharest. As for the accomodation, there are nice hotels in Sibiu, you could try the Apollo Hermannstadt, http://www.hah.ro/ or you could try one of the many pensions, like the Erlenpark Pension http://www.erlenpark.ro/ You will find friendly people, speaking english and german, who will gladly be of help. Have a nice trip!
