I'm not sure if it rain or not. But it always open every year unless if the weather really sucks. Its better you ask to any agency who handle it.

To be honest, i already climb mount kinabalu 4 times since 2003-2007. It really challenging mount and it have 2 track. You can choose the easy and short track(Timpohon track) or the challenging and long track (mersilau track). I already try both and i prefer with challenging track.

If you try the short track, the cost is not expensive like long track. If you have money around RM1000 or 300-400 dollar. But i advice you to have around 500-600 dollar. Who know the price go higher than i aspect. Its enough for you to climb mount kinabalu including flight ticket and hotel fee + certificate + guider fee(it also depending on flight promotion but i believe MAS or AIRASIA have promotion every month. Its better you go and check it first)

From my experience, one times i went and climb mount kinabalu in rain. Its really challenging and i like it even it rain. But to be honest, its super dangerous if its really heavy rain. If its just a normal rain, you still can climb that mount easily.

is about RM 900 per pax. Normally needs 4-6 months
booking in advance but if you can give me your climbing

All year long you can climb the mountain, just that if you are unlucky and is raining on the day to submit, you can climb. Normally prefer month is Mar - May.

When is the Best Time to Climb Mt. Kinabalu?

Although the recommended climbing season is from late February to July, the best time to climb is actually in the months of March and April when it is usually dry. September to December are usually the wet months and climbing becomes more arduous when it rains. Although delineation can be made of wetter and drier seasons, the rains on Kinabalu are fairly unpredictable and they can still occur at any time of the year.

Tips for First Time Climbers

1. Try not to carry anything in your hands at all. Use a light back pack if you so desire.
2. Pack your things that you want the porters to carry inside 2-3 layers of plastic bags (in case it rains).
3. On the first day, you will have to PACK YOUR OWN LUNCH (preferably sandwiches).
4. Don’t worry about others – just walk at your own comfortable pace and start slowly. Avoid running. You are on vacation.
5. On the first day, wear shorts and light clothings and carry only minimum things consisting of a water bottle, rain coat, lunch pack and sweater.
6. On the second day, the climb will be done in very COLD weather – so be PREPARED.

Hi,
I have checked with the operator, Sutera Sanctuary Lodges (they are the one who manage the hostels at Laban Rata (3200m) and they said they do have availability for climbing the mt. in December for certain dates only.

You would need to give a specific date to know the availability.

And yes, it is Monsoon season in December and there will be rain, but, anyway, there's always some rain on the Mt. practically every other day normally, though sometimes, it can be quite bad weather.

As for the price:
For Malaysian : RM500-RM600 (price depends on how many of you to share the mt. guide and transportation cost)
For Non- Malaysian : RM650 - RM750

Regards,
Grace

December is a rainy month, it depends on your luck whether it rain or not during your climb. If it's too heavy, chances you may not be able to complete your climb. If it rain earlier before your climb, you will have slippery climb which may be dangerous for you. However, nobody can predict the weather accurately. I once climbed in April, consider one of the best month to climb and it rained midway. Luckily the wind was strong and blew away the clouds hence the rain came and went in 5 minutes.

Climbing Package include (Malaysian / Non Malaysian):
Park Entry Fee : RM3 / RM5
Permit Fee : RM30 / RM100
Insurance - Death per Accident RM50k : RM7
Insurance - Permanent Disablement RM50k : RM7
Certificate (Optional) : RM10 for colour / RM1 for b&w
Trail Fee between Timpohon Gate & Mesilau Gate : RM5 / RM10
Guide Fee per day - Timpohon Trail : RM50 / Mesilau Train : RM60 (Total RM100 / RM120 as the climb usually takes 2 days)
Porter Fee per day - RM40 per max 10kg, add weight are charged per kg
Should you choose not to carry all your luggages for your climb, you can keep it in the Park HQ for RM10 per luggage.
Transport Fee : RM4 per person per way (min 4 person) via Timpohon, RM15 per person per way (min 6 person) via Mesilau
