Hi you are coming here for leisure or for work (short term/long term)?
Or you are a backpackers looking for the most convenient place to live?
If you are an expatriate and just want to live somewhere around the city where you can access most activities (shop, food, etc) by foot, there are lots of service apartment around the Kuala Lumpur twin tower area, the golden triangle as well as places like Bangsar, Mount Kiara and Sri Hartamas.
If you are a backpackers, there are lots of cheap accommodations in the city too! China town area (as if names.. lots of chinese there), Brickfields (huge indian community), Kampung Baru, Chow Kit (huge Malay communities).
Just give us a shout if you need more helps! :)

It all depends on what you want to do and your budget. If shopping is top priority, hotels around the Bukit Bintang area are great - there's the Westin, Grand Millennium, Parkroyal and other less pricey hotels such as Number Eight and 41 Berangan.

If you want to be close to the Petronas Twin Towers, there's hotel Maya, Mandarin Oriental and Traders.

The above are close to restaurants and bars.

For something unique and more intimate, there's Villa Samadhi - if you choose to just unwind in the city. This is located within reach of the main KL area (just 10 minutes away from the KLCC area).

If you are traveling with kids and want something exclusively for them - there's the Sunway Resort , about 20 minutes way from the city. Right next door is a theme park and shopping center to keep the entire family happy.

your question is so subjective... 'best' in terms of what? Is it in terms of pricing, specific accomodation, hub of activity, a little away from the crowd.. & many others? There're the luxury hotels in the city center like the Shangri La, Le Meridien KL, Mandarin hotel to name a few & the Palace of the Golden Horses, which is a short drive away frm the city & the reasonable ones such as the Equatorial, Four Seasons, etc. You may even want to try the Ecotouria Resort (tel.-603 9021 7363

Anyway, for further assistance, you can try the Selangor Tourism Board from 8.30am to 5.30pm at +603-5513 2000, Monday - Friday for tourist information or to speak to the Customer Service Officer. Good luck!

Here is some suggestion:-

If you like shopping, food then it will be around Bukit Bintang area. A lot of shopping centre in this area, food stall and choice of 5 stars hotel to backpacker hostel.

If you like night life then is around P. Ramlee road, a lot of bars, clubs and near to Petronas Twin Towers. Another choice is around Bangsar area.

If you want nature, then is somewhere near Kepong where you have FRIM ( Forest Research ).
