When you arrive in HCMC tell your taxi driver to take you to tourist hub called "Pham Ngo Lau Street" and there you will see, do and get all you need at prices that should meet just about anyones budget. It is also located in the center of the city so you can walk and enjoy many sites from there. As for going out to other area's, the same location has many agencies with tons of free information on tours and other places to stay. When you take the ride it should cost you by cab the normal fee is about 10,000 VN dong per K of travel. If you get in trouble or need help on above such as business concerns, employment or legal direction, give me a chat on skype: vncservice , good luck and enjoy, as I have for the last 20 years of my residency here.

Hi, I think you have enough good advice on the hotels. If you only have a short time in VN, I would say you could visit the Mekong Delta, Can Tho has a wonderful floating market. If you have more time, Hue/Hoi An are both nice for cultural-historic visits and of course, Ha Noi, where I live is the capital. Sapa is beautiful and Halong bay is also a great place if you come to the north.

there is a backpacker street that names DE THAM ST in the down town of Ho Chi Minh City. The room-rate overthere is about 10 - 20 USD / a month with enough accomodation like fan or A/C, double bed (normally), hot - cold water. for the breakfast serve, you should make a deal with the reception.
I recommend this place to you not only because of the hotel rate, it is also because of the atmosphere of the street in night time. There are a lot of small restaurant that serve several type of cousine. you could find there from Eastern to Western type, and also there are some kind of bar and pub so that you can enjoy not only day time but night time also.
For a must visit place in HCM, you may go to:
+ Ho Chi Minh City Post Office
+ Duc Ba (Notre Dame) Cathedral.
+ War Remnant Museum
+ Cu Chi Tunnel
in fact, you can contact with travel agency in the De Tham Street and ask for their open tour, normally, you can take open tour from HCMC to Mekong Delta (1 days or 2 days 1 night), city tour (1 day), Cuchi Tunnel tour (1 day).
Hope this could help, do contact me if you need more info.
Have a nice trip.

It depends on what kind of traveller you are. If you wanna discover our culture, can come to Hoi an or Hue - ancient capital with lots of cultural heritages. Buon Me Thuot is also highly recommended - I really liked the liberal lifestyle there. If you are interested in the natural scenes, then pls visit Nha Trang or Halong Bay. I would also recommend Ban Gioc Waterfall, but I guess you can't afford time to go there. It's nearly 8 car hours from hanoi, no flight yet.

Hi!
There are a lot of cheap and nice hotels in Ho Chi Minh city. However, it's hard for you to find such a hotel in the center of this city. So, i know a very nice hotel in Binh Thanh District (20 minutes to get a taxi to the center of the city) named Hai Au Hotel (Seagull). It costs you 150000VND to 250000VND (8.5$ to 14$. And so do the other hotel in Phu Nhuan District. But i recommend Seagull Hotel because a friend of mine have been working there, and i'm sure they offer you a very good customer services. And after visiting Ho Chi Minh city, you should visit Vung Tau city (120 km from HCMC) where you can play on the beach, or visit Dai Nam, Vuon Chuoi tourist destination in Bien Hoa City (about 1 hour to take there). But i suppose you should travel around HCMC first, there are many interesting places to visit. Ask me whenever you feel confused. I'm willing to help. :)

Dear,

I think it is enough hotel addvise, I think you should go to the back pack tourist area, Vietnamese called PHO TAY BA LO. Street name is PHAM NGU LAO, BUI VIEN, DE THAM AND DO QUANG DAU. In that area you can find many mini hotel with the price from 10-20usd/night.

In Hochiminh city, you can spend a couple night and visit, the place which the people addvise above, and I just added some place as traditional market name : CHO BINH TAY, CHO AN DONG AND CHO BEN THANH but CHO BEN THANH is for tours, in this market, you should bargain, normally down 50%. The rest market are wholesale, you shouldn't bargain.

For foods, you can enjoy Vietnamese food around the tourist area. If you can connect to local guider he can lead you visit the city and enjoy foods as a local people.

About visiting, with my advise, you should visit some place which are not for tours, I mean you can learn vietnamese traditional living at Long An city and some Mekong Delta, If you like to spend time with water and beaches, should come to visit Phu Quoc, with white sand and best security, fres sea foods and fiendly people, you will have nice trip in there.

Hope you have good trip.

If you come here and like to visit Vietnam with a local guider, please contact me by phone, 0918-774-369. I am living in hochiminh city but I came here from countryside. Price is not too much, just receive some tip.

Thank you

Bye

There are many nice and cheap so-called mini-hotels in Hochiminh city. If you travel alone, I think you should come to Pham Ngu Lao street, district 1. Almost foreign tourists and foreign students stay there. The inhabitants and foreigners there will show you where to stay and visit.

Hochiminh city is good place to visit. Besides, if you like beach and sea swimming, there are 2 places you could go. First is Vung Tau city - Baria Vung Tau province, 125km southeast away from HCM city. If you visit there on weekend, you could see dog race on Sartuday night. Second is Mui Ne, Phan Thiet city - Binh Thuan province, 195km south away from HCM. Mui Ne is called the capital of beach resorts of Vietnam. Seafood there is really good and fresh and cheap.

2 more places I'd like to introduce you are DaLat city and Cuu Long River Delta provinces. Dalat is a romantic highland city famous with green pine tree hills and great waterfalls. You will enjoy cool and fresh climate, vegetables and floweres. Almost just married couples spend their honeymoon there. Come to Cuulong Delta provinces, you will see rivers, rice deltas and fruits; and you will meet South Vietnam people who are very honesty and friendly.

Welcome to the South Vietnam. Hope you will have a very good time here. Remember, food in Vietnam is very very good.

Dear bunny...oh really welcoming you to Vietnam, a beautiful place for your choice.

first of all if you gonna be in Hochiminh and look for a hotel with cheap price, You should ask the taxi to the PHAM NGU LAO street . This place is a town for travellers, which provide any services like : open tours, housing, restaurant, booking air tickets, motobike rent....but be careful you have to bargain =))) .

sencondly there are some 3 or 4 stars hotel around the Dictrist 1 but i think you no need because its quite expensive.

Thirdly when you end up the tour around Hochiminh, you can asks information at the travel desk to some other place of Vietam...such as Mekong delta, Hoian ancient town in the middle vietnam, Hue- the emperior landcape, Hanoi the capital of vietnam.

anyway if you visit Hoi an and looks for a friend to guide you. dont be shy to contact with me. Im always welcome

Im doing at a 5stars hotel in Danang vietnam. and so fun.

I'm supposed to you some advice when you travel in HCMC. I think you should live in Bui Vien, De Tham, Pham Ngu Lao, Do Quang Dau street, it located in district 1 because there have many foreigner stay here. Now, I'll introduce for u some hotel
Truong Huy 139 Nguyen Trai
23 Pham Ngoc Thach
Anh Thien 35E Nguyen Trung Truc, opposite to Tao Dan hotel, near Ben Thanh market
Ngoc Lnh 283/21 Pham Ngu Lao ngoclinhhotel.com
97 and 199 Bui Vien
Prices is cheap, about 10-20 dollar.
Besides HCMC, you should travel in Nha Trang, Hoi An, Hue, Ha Noi. It's beautiful and famous. The weather in Vietnam is hot.
I think you will be disturbed by beggar, you shouldn't give money to them, especially children. finally, if u want shopping in sai gon square or ben thanh market, you'd better bargain to 30%-50%depend on things you buy.
If you need somethings, you can ask me.
Take care.

I like Saigon Garden Hotel, a two-star-hotel system including Saigon Garden Hotel and Sun Flower Hotel located on a tranquil area between District 5 and District 10, very near by Ky Hoa Park and some supermarkets. You will find that the hotel is not only romantic but also young and dynamic. It takes 20 minutes to Tan Son Nhat International Airport and 5 minutes to Saigon Center.
In HCMC, you can visit Ben Thanh Market, Opera-House (Dong Khoi St.), China Town including Binh Tay Market, and Oriental Medicine Marketing (Dist 5), Ho Chi Minh Museum (1 Nguyen Tat Thanh St.), Vietnam History Museum (2 Nguyen Binh Khiem St.), Cu Chi Tunnels, Duc Ba Church, Suoi Tien Park (Thu Duc Dist), Binh Quoi Park (SG Tourist), ... after that you can go to Vung Tau, Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon if you like beach, and Da Lat, Buon Me Thuoc, Ha Long Bay if you like mountain and plateau. Have a nice trip !!
