No! British citizens and other British passport holders who produce evidence of the right to reside permanently in the UK can visit for up to six months.! However, if you are here to work or study for a period longer than 6 months, I believe some sort of permit may be required.

I think you do need a tourist visa for Australia, but not NZ.
Check their immigration website.

Hi, you are entitled to stay in New Zealand for up to 6 months with no visa. However if you looking at studing or working in New Zealand you will need to obtain a working or study visa. A working visa is valid for two years for UK passport holders.
