It depends on the confort you'd like. 170 $ a day is the amount of a normal life. 350 $ a day is sufficient for a confortable life. But you can do many things with 100 $ or less a day but you need a help asking people each time for a good deal.

No you do not have to have a Moroccan 'friend' to help you plan. There is lots and lots of information on the internet and lots of choice of accommodation, tours and so forth.

The national train service website is a little confusing (I am sure they used to have prices but I can't find them just now) http://www.oncf.ma but they do have online help and the timetables on the website are quite clear - it's just the pricing I can't quite work out.

You can eat a really good meal for less than 30 dirham, get a train from Tangiers to Marakesh for around £30 (I think). Or if you want to save money there are coaches or the shared grand taxis (really experience Morocco!), and a huge range of hotels at all sorts of different prices.

If you speak french you will find getting round very easy but generally people are helpful.

Morocco is not a large country but quite a long one and there is quite a variation from North to South. You will have to think about how much time you have and what sort of holiday you want.

Most people who answer here will be trying to sell you something...(and probably in Morocco generally) and that might be fine and good, I am sure they are all really good services - just be aware.
