its true is a hard decicion but i really recoment to you Leon, its less turisitic that granada witch make it better for you, different than granada leon is the capital of the Nicaraguan culture with a los history as well it's the capital of the revolution where you can discover this, it´s possible to walk on the rooftop of the largest cathedral and most beutifull in America Central, has amazing beaches just 30 minutes driving where you can visit on boat or kayack the mangroove forerest for bird watching or practice surfing and take lessons if you dont know, volcanos for a hiking or practice the famous volcano boearding sport, also ruins of the firts city founded in Nicaragua and volcanical lagoons, anyway everthing you are looking for your best experience is leon, beaches, volcanos, hike , history, revolution and parties is in leon principally from wednesday to saturday. you can choose what is best for you.

I THINK BOTH OF THEM ARE WORTH TO VISIT. THEM TWO HAVE THEIR OWN PARTICULARITIES, BUT ARE CONNECTED THROUGH HISTORY: MAIN CITIES DURING AND AFTER THE COLONY, SIMILAR COLONIAL ARQUITECTURE AND BOHEMIAN CITIES. HOWEVER LEON IS MORE INTERESTING WHEN IS ABOUT CULTURE AND ART. NIGHT LIFE CAN BE SIMILAR, YET MORE ATRACTIVE IN LEON SINCE IT IS CALLED THE INTELLECTUAL CITY OF NICARAGUA.

ON THE OTHER HAND, THESES PARALLEL CITIES CAN BE EQUALY ATRACTIVE REGARDING THE NATURAL ASPECTS THEY COUNT WITH: GRANADA HAS THE MOMBACHO, LAKE NICARAGUA AND ITS ISLETS, APOYO LAKE, THE WHITE TOWNS (YOU CAN VISIT MASAYA AND ITS VOLCANO AS WELL WHILE BEING IN GRANADA). THESE PLACES OFFER GREAT POINT VIEWS, HIKING TRAILS, SWIMMING SPOTS, HOTSPRINGS, AND SOME OF THE ART YOU CAN FIND IN NICARAGUA. FROM LEON YOU CAN VISIT VOLCANOS LIKE CERRO NEGRO, TELICA AND SAN CRISTOBAL; ALSO YOU CAN STOP BY THE BEACHES NEAR THE CITY (JUST 20KM AWAY). CITY TOUR IN BOTH CITIES IS ABSOLUTELY A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO??

IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU, DON 'T HESITATE IN TELLING ME. IT'LL BE MY PLEASURE TO HELP YOU OUT.

BEST REGARDS,

Leon, without a doubt. For the reasons Miguel said - more popular and touristy - yuch. Plus, then you're that much closer to Mechapa!

Hard question and decission, both cities are amazing and colonials, Leon has a lot to offer as Granada, it's a hard decission but I will choose Granada, Why? Just for being more popular and it's the most turistic city, the capital of the Nicaraguan tourism, with a great nightlife and more!

Good luck, have an amazing time and a safe trip!

Undoubtedly, Granada would be the best choice due to its closer proximity to Managua, where surely you will arrive and depart. In addition, Granada offers more tourist attractions than León, apart from the colonial architecture in Granada you can take a look at the Great Lake of Nicaragua with its 8.264 km2 (3.191 sq mi), which is the largest lake in Central America and the 19th largest in the world, when the Spanish conquistadors knew him called him the "Mar Dulce" (Sweet Sea or Freshwater Sea) also houses in its waters a unique species of freshwater shark. Another tourist resources are unmatched Granada Islands, an archipelago of 365 small islands formed more than 20 thousand years ago by the explosion of the neighbor volcano, Mombacho , that you can also visit to enjoy breathtaking scenery, unique flora and fauna, hiking and canopy experiences.

Def Leon coz has less tourist and yet is more cultural and artistic than Granada, the beach is like 15 minutes far away, is wayyyyy less expensive than Granada and there are plenty of museum, is safer than Granada, But Granada has his thing also, the natural beauty of the Nicaraguan Lake, the islets, the Mombacho, the city is more touristic oriented wich could be a good or a bad thing, good: lots of place to stay, eat, bad: prices are crazy as only gringos could pay, lots of tourists tha some streets seen a Nicaraguan is the rare thing hahahahahaha.

BTW if you go to Leo don't forget to eat "quesillo" and "chancho con yuca", if you go to Granada eat "vigorón con cacao".

Granada. Both are hot, hot, hot right now....but Leon is hotter. Granada is on a magnificent lake, so it gets breezes; Leon is landlocked. The natural attractions - tropical islands, a cloud forrest on top of a volcano, a crystal clear crater lake - are all within 25 minutes of Granada. However, if you are going to be here for Easter weekend, then Leon is the better bet b/c of the flower carpets that they create.....beautiful.
