Well, there are different places in San Salvador for visiting in a city trip. Malls, historical monuments and museums for instance. I can suggest you some cheap hotels where you can find a comfortable service. Beside of that, I can offer you a very cheap price for guiding you throughout the capital city. If you want further information send me a personal message in this website

Lonely Planet, the travel guide publisher, has released
the 2010 edition of its Best in Travel report. This
year, incredible as it might seem, El Salvador was
listed as one of the top 10 countries in the world to
visit. The number one country in the list was New
Zealand. The other countries named in Lonely Planet's
top 10 were Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal,
Portugal, Suriname, and the USA.

in San Salvador (actually the area/city known as Antiguo Cuscatlan) there is a delightful hotel called the Alicante that is centrally located in Antiguo, very comfortable and very affordable. (check out a review http://www.whatsupelsalvador.com/2011/05/hotel-alicante/ ) There is also another Alicante in the Apaneca/Ataco area that is an awesome paradise in the coffee mountains.
In our opinion some MUST see places:
1. Apaneca mountain valley - Conception de Ataco, Apaneca, Jayua, etc is a jewel in the highlands- must go on the weekend for the gastronomico festivals
2. Suchitoto and the lake - another awesome village with a wonderful lake with boats tours, quaint village and more
3. Zona Rosa - both the bars and restaurants and the amazing museums
4. Antiguo Cuscatlan - awesome older part of San Salvador - vibrant and safe
5. The row of crazy big malls on Panamericana - four MASSIVE malls back to back in a row on one street. all different all cool.
6. La Libertad area - the beach towns including playa sunzal, el tunco etc are world famous surf spots and have a great vibe
7. Costa Del Sol - the white sand beaches of El Salvador. so many great beaches and no crowds but easy access

There are many more great places in our new home country, come visit and explore!
