Hey,
If you are there for 1 of April you just need to go where all the people goes. There will be so crowd, party all around the town and music as much you can stand that. For the next day visit Matka, beatiful nature next to the city. You can go there by bus or taxi, anyone will be able to tell you the way. Then, you should visit Old Turkish bazar, there is open market also. Then, if it is about walking, you can walk as much as you want. Everything is near, you can see many churches, the home of Mother Teresa is in the centar, then you should eat somewhere ``tavce gravce``` or ``musaka`` so that you will get the right feeling from Macedonia,

Enjoy your stay,
Marina

Hi Sean,

Thank you very much for writing to me… As local tour guide from Macedonia, I will write to you few hints what to visit & do in Skopje during your stay…

Being the capital city, Skopje is one of the largest cities in Macedonia and one of the best places in the country to appreciate Macedonia’s life & culture...
The old section of the city is one of the best preserved examples of urban Ottoman architecture in Macedonia. The Turkish bazaar, shops, baths and mosques of various sizes make is a joy to explore on foot on a warm day. “Carsija” is a truly unique district and its best to approach it from the center of the new city, walking over the Kameni Most (Stone Bridge). As you make your way northward it feels like you are gradually stepping back in time to Ottoman Rule. The old market place and streets are still alive and full with atmosphere which radiates from the small shops, coffee and tea rooms which are always full with tourists which are delighted from the appearance and the life of this part of the city.
The Church of St. Spas (Holy Salvation) can be found a bit south from the main entrance of the Kale Fortress and is famous for two reasons: 1) the beautiful iconostasis in the church, which is made from walnut tree which is wide about 10m and high 6m, and 2) the site houses & the sarcophagus with the remains of Goce Delcev (1872-1903), one of the greates Macedonian Revolutionary.
Exploring Skopje’s Old Bazaar and Main Square are two of the most rewarding thing to do in the city.
The Mother Teresa Memorial House is dedicated to the humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mother Teresa and is located in on the popular Macedonia street in the Centar municipality, on the very location of the once Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, where Mother Teresa was baptized. It is a modern, transformed version of Mother Teresa's birth house and has a multifunctional, but sacral character. Inside the house, part of her relics are preserved, which have been transferred to Skopje with support of the Roman Catholic Church of Skopje. There is a museum and sculptures of Mother Teresa and the members of her family in realistic appearance. The house also gives opportunity for cultural manifestations and bears a gallery.

Half-way up Mount Vodno, in the village of Gorni Nezeri, lies the Monastery of Pantelejmon, worth a short visit, especially if you don´t take a cab but walk up the mountain. It was built in 1164 by Alexis Comnène (Aleksij Komnen), the grandson of Emperor Alexis the First. Surviving several earthquakes, the artwork inside St. Panteleimon Monastery is generally regarded as one of the three main examples of Byzantine art in the world.
There is also a restaurant and a hotel.

I give you a list of the sights you should not miss while you are in Skopje are:
- Kale Fortress, from where you can get lovely views of the city,
- The Church of St. Spas , south from the main entrance of the Kale Fortress,
- National Museum of Macedonia at Kursumli An in Old Bazaar,
- Mustafa Pasha's Mosque which is a beautiful example of Islamic influence in the city,
- Stone Bridge, built in the 6th century,
- The Mother Teresa Memorial House, on the popular Macedonia street,
- Museum of Skopje, located at the Old railway station in the center of the city,
- The Monastery of Pantelejmon, in the village of Gorni Nezeri,
- Millenium Cross on top of Vodno Mountain.

Thank you,
Stojan Toshe Nikolovski

Hi Sean! I am glad that you are going to visit Skopje. So you are coming right on time. There 's a masquerade on the 1st of April. For the next 2 days don't miss to visit the place of "Matka", the monument of Mother Teresa, the city churches, Kale. If you like to go shopping there ate many places too. Visit the old Turkish bazaar and the Vero markets, and lots of brand clothes shops. During your stay here you can eat in Mac Donalds, Giradiko or you can try traditional Macedonian food in any of the restaurants in Skopje. If you need any additional information please write to me again.
