hello
Actually we are in winter now but spring is approaching so in march, you can come accross a beautiful sunny weather.firstlyt İt depends on what you want to do.But as ı see,you ask about weekend.at weekends,it can be crowded but if you are bored from crowded and traffic then I can suggest you a best place,Kartepe Tourism Accomodations. After having a beautiful village breakfast, you can join nature tours by horses or Atvs,İt is place where are full of taking oxigens and resting enough. And also you can go Polonezköy where is a district of Beykoz in İstanbul, and can find many social activities in there.Walking, running, horse riding, cycling, barbecues, picnic are some of them. But in the city center of istanbul, you can find a secret place,Saklıköy.you can also find many activities like basketball, football, volleyball or open air walking areas, and many quality restaurants.

in day time, you could see museums and historical places. I would suggest you to go Sultanahmet, Topkapı palace, Eminönü, Galata bridge and Galata tower. if you go with this order you may walk. those places are close to each other. and at night you could go to İstiklal street in Taxim. it s also close to Galata tower. You can shop here or stop for a coffee or you can go to some bars and pubs. you can find turkish traditional entertainment. those all in europe side of istanbul. It s fun to cross other side for me . in Asia side you could see Girl tower.
You could see a football game or any other sports. whatever you like.
İf you want a calm weekend, you could go to Ağva. check this hotel www.shelaleotel.com .

This totally depends on what type of things you are after doing...

Are you for instance a clubber? Are you looking out for trendy bars and clubs and then hip shopping spaces for the day?

Or would you rather make most of the historic center in your couple of days?

Or would you rather discover hidden gems in the city?

You might be saying that you want to do them all...

In that case how long is your long weekend :)

If arriving on Thursday for instance, go out that night. You know that all around the world Thursday is the new Friday... Nice Thursday night outs are at Asmalimescit district or Bebek. Check the following out:

http://www.nileguide.com/destination/blog/istanbul/2010/06/01/strolling-through-bebek/

Friday: visit the historic center. Do Grand Bazaar and Topkapı Palace (half day for each is good enough).
Use the night for a romantic dinner. Recommended: La Brise, Topaz

Saturday: use to do what the locals do... Go to Beyoglu, Galata or Nisantasi and discover local boutiques.
REad the following:

Sunday, hoping that the weather also permits, go to the Bosphorus coast... Have a nice Turkish style breakfast, read the following:
http://www.nileguide.com/destination/blog/istanbul/2010/03/22/turkish-breakfasts/

and

http://www.nileguide.com/destination/blog/istanbul/2010/06/06/namli-gourmet-brunch/

After such a breakfast you should be unlikely to be able to eat lunch. If you have appetite for dinner though, you may want to go to a Fish reastaurant or an Ottoman one.
Recommendations on fish: Sabahattin in Sultanahmet, Set in Kirecburnu
Ottoman: Asitane
