Johannesburg is now Gauteng. Midrand lies between Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Midrand is a located in the Johannesburg metropolis in Gauteng, South Africa. The name Halfway House is suitable as it is half way between The Rand (Witwatersrand) and Pretoria. Midrand is in Region 2 of Johannesburg's administrative region plan and completely built around the N1. It is identified as one of the 8 tourism nodes in the Johannesburg area and home to large-scale industries such as textiles and motor vehicles.

Midrand is relatively modern and has experienced a great deal of growth in the last decade. Many businesses have relocated to Midrand due to its proximity to excellent highway links and its location in the economic centre of Gauteng Province. Midrand's large development has meant there is little break between the outskirts of Johannesburg and those of Pretoria. Therefore, the Gauteng Provincial Government envisages that, if current growth trends remains, much of the province will be city by 2015. Midrand is, therefore, an accurate reflection of current economic expansion of Gauteng. Home to large-scale industries such as textiles and motor vehicles, it is a superbly located business venue. I hope this will help u !

Geographically Midrand is separate from Johannesburg. However, Midrand and Centurion are two areas that have expanded dramatically over the last 2 decades and, within the next few years, will join into one area of development. When that has happened, it will be possible to enter Johannesburg from the south and drive right through to the northern side of Pretoria and never leave the city limits. You will then pass through Johannesburg, Sandton, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria. (Note that Pretoria is the capital and not Johannesburg.)

Originally, because of its midway position between the Johannesburg and Pretoria, Midrand was known as Halfway House, and the current name was arrived at after a competition which caused a great deal of controversy at the time.

Midrand is an area in central Gauteng Province, South Africa, between Centurion and Sandton. It was established as a municipality in 1981, but was incorporated the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality during the late 1990s.

Though no longer an independent town, the name Midrand is still on common use to denote the suburbs around the N1 highway north of the Jukskei River up to the border with City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. (This portion of the N1 highway is also known as the Ben Schoeman Highway.)

Suburbs that are generally regarded as being in Midrand include among others: Carlswald, Crowthorne, Glen Austin, Halfway House, Halfway Gardens, Kyalami, Vorna Valley and Randjesfontein.

In 2010, it was reported that the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality wished to annex Midrand from the City of Johannesburg, reportedly to boost the City of Tshwane's income, which was severely strained.

The city is relatively modern, having experienced much growth in the last decade. Many businesses have relocated there due to its proximity to good highway links and its location in the economic centre of Gauteng Province.

Midrand's development has meant there is little break between the outskirts of Johannesburg and those of Pretoria, and the Gauteng Provincial Government envisages that, according to current growth trends, much of the province will be city by 2015.

Hi there, Midrand is a suburb of Johannesburg. Johannesburg is a large city and is quite spread out. It is near to Pretoria, and slowly these 2 cities are being connected with more and more suburbs opening up between them. I would say that Midrand is half way between Johannesburg and Pretoria. (Very nice area, I have a friend living there.)

A bit of a hard question to answer. Midrand is a region between Johannesburg and Pretoria - just north of Johannesburg, in fact. It's a bit like a small town on its own, but you can reach Johannesburg very easily from Midrand, as long as the traffic is not too bad.
