I'm looking at the tour operator, Great Sights Coach Tours. In some tours, I'd have to leave the car at the hotel for their whole day...

...trip. There is the Whale watching but which is a better choice to have regarding the package involved? The full day from Christchurch or the other half day cruising with the Dolphins up at Auckland's Bay Of Islands? This is in view of the times I'll be there between September & October?

Hi,
Thanks for asking. I am not familiar with Great Sights Coach Tours so I can not comment on that. If you have a whole day available in Christchurch then I would recommend a day visit to Akaroa whale watching or swimming with dolphins.
When you can give me your exact dates and how much time you will have in Christchurch I would be happy to assist you.
Kind regards
John Rozwadowski

Hi, If you are based in Christchurch the best place to go would be the Whale watching off the Kaikoura Coast. You can drive there and connect with a local tour boat. The scenery of the high mountains right by the sea is breath-taking especially if they are still snow capped. You can also go more locally for cruising with dolphins in the Marlborough Sounds with the rare Hectors dolphin. Bay of Islands is 248 kms north of Auckland a total drive of 1300 kms from Chch. If you are planning to drive the trip it would be well worth the views along the way. I have visited both these places and they each have their individual charms. Enjoy your trip.

Thank YOU both John, Stan respectively... :)

I shall also be considering yr Christchurch offer given the remaining time left in the city.

Yes, I am aware of the distance we are covering across the southern and into the northern islands before reaching Auckland.

Some tour packages are very much considered as they alleviate the need for making one's own way to a marked location as well as allowing my camera to fixate & focus better on sights and sceneries for I am free from the steering commitment and we get to be delivered back to the hotel above all. Your offer and tips are much appreciated too. ;)
