I am visiting Netherlands in December, i plann to stay near Amsterdam . What would be the best places to visit and things to do in Amsterdam and the surroundings?

Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Leiden, Haarlem all these places are worth visiting and not too far from AMS. You need more (detailed) suggestions, feel free to contact me.

HI Eva , thank you for taking time to answer my question. I Am thinking not to stay in Amsterdam since i prefer cottages than hotel. Which area would you suggest that is rural and nice and also near amsterdam?

If you prefer rural places try to find a room at a nice farm near Amsterdam http://www.hotel-boerenkamer.nl/?taalkeuze=en
You can take a public bus into Amsterdam from most of them.
