price of lunch would be about starting from 3 dollars. glass of beer starts from about 1 dollar. All these depend on the place you purchase them. You will not pay the same thing in a local restaurent as in a hotel.
Conversion rate is about 33 rupees for 1 american dollar

You can expect to pay around Rs85 for 20 local cigarettes or Rs100 for Camel. 330ml cans of Phoenix beer are around Rs32 each in a supermarket but expect to bay around Rs200 for the same in a hotel. Lunch depends on what you want, if you wanted Briani (well worth trying), you could buy this in many places for less than Rs100, Pizza Hut would set you back about Rs350-Rs400 for a meal for 2 from their set menu and KFC would set you back around Rs100 per person, obviously depending upon your selection.

Soda by the bottle would set you back around Rs18-30 depending upon the brand and in some cases, if it is cold or room temperature.

Seems I came to late to help, all your questions are answered. You may find however that shopkeepers will double this price at the sight of a tourist so better keep your prices handy. Taxis should charge about Rs 600-700 per hour of travel and at most Rs 2000 for a days touring. Watch out for the so called factory shops though. Phone calls on local sims cost only 60 cents a minutes i.e 2US cents.

Prices would differ from where you purchased them from. As sebastien said, prices would double at a sight of a Tourist!! I would suggest to avoid little corner shops- The so called Factory shops and the hotels souvenirs shops!! Altough I work in a hotel myelf we all know that they make 200% profit on most things!!For the above items get them from supermarkets. The prices are on display and you will not risk paying the Tourist rate!!

prices in Mauritius are different.
in the hotels the prices are like in America or Europe, but in the public places outside the Hotels you pay nearly 50 % less than usualy in America or Europe. It depends on the place you visit
glass of beer around 1 dollar.
lunch is starting starting from 2 dollars

Conversion rate is about 34 rupees for 1 american dollar
By this you see if you know where to go , life can be easy in Mauritius

Hello :)

The current rate of US dollar is between 32 and 34 rupees actually.

For example, at lunch in Port Louis market food court, having 32 rupees in hand, i can buy a coca cola (30cl at about 14 rupees) or a glass of alouda (drink of milk and ice cream at 15 rupees) and two roti (local dish like nachos made with flour and filled with curry at about 8 rupees each = 16 rupees) and still have 1 or 2 rupees left.

To move around by bus is very cheap too, a bus fare from Grand Bay (beach on northern coast) to Port Louis (main city and capital on north west coast) : about 20 km, costs 24 rupees / person.

And for lunch or diner, you must be careful about prices because all differs depending on places like very touristic or inland or places of interests, etc. There are restaurants or bars where a coca (a 30cl glass or 50cl bottle) can cost 20 rupees or more. Another example, if i want to go to lunch or dine in a restaurant in Caudan in port louis : a burger with chips + a salad and a soda is at about 320 rupees = 10 dollars and a beer (a mug) is between 100 and 150 rupees depending on the packaging, or a local one, etc.

But in most places, prices for lunch or other food stuffs are quite cheap here - just come and you'll see, lollll

Ciao,

Didier

And oh, forgot bout the pack of smokes !!!

Malboro's are hard to find here now but a pack of Winston is at 85 rupees, Benson's at 100 rupees and same for Dunhills.

(For your conversion table, always keep in mind that a US dollar is at 32 rupees.)

Well, it all depends upon what you buy and where you buy! But, to give you an idea, you can have a lunch from 1 USD (street food) to 25 USD (nice Restaurant). If you can focus your question, I'll be glad to help you further.

Bye and See you Soon!
