Depends who you want to go with. If you want more of a private tour, such as with Omar at www.cameltrekking.com or the guys at www.camelsafaries.com you need to book in advance. If you're going with a larger group, for example with Sahara Expedition http://www.saharaexpe.ma/ you can possibly leave it until you arrive in Morocco, but it won't hurt to contact them in advance. The prices are on all of the above websites.

Hello?
Nice to hear from you that you are coming to visit Morocco.
As we are originally from the big desert of Morocco with its immense sand dunes named Erg Chegaga with the height of 300 m on a length of 40 km and that's the real and big desert which is more calm and quiet.
to know more e-mail us is this e-mail: moroccodiscovery@gmail.com or button on this link www.morocco-discovery.com and try desert tour (Sahara memory) and we can supply you with enough information and also the panorama and landscapes that you are going to enjoy during this 3 days trip.
Looking forward to hearing from you
All our best regards

The responses I see here are from travel agents. We are a marketing company and I have lived in Morocco for 5 years. Most treking companies here are good, but i want to suggest a treking company run by Americans and Europeans who have expertise in the area and who have been professionally trained. I would personally use this company called High Country. MAT1HCNTRY@aol.com. His website is www.highcountry.co.uk

Hello there,
As you see there are loads of agencies doing the Sahara thing. Just be aware of that the drive down (to where the sandunes start) is long, count atleast 6 hours one way (from Marrakech). To really have an experience of the desert and to avoid the tourist crowds, I would suggest that you take more time for the desert and make a proper 3-5 days walk with dromadaires, plus 2 days for the transport back and forth. That is an unforgettable experience!
Have a great trip!
Maria
