You are right, it's been raining in horizontal sheets here in Manila, we need lights at 3pm and its bright and sunny in Cebu. But nowadays, you can never be so sure. Temperature is not too variable but pack light rain gear anyway. We;ve had a very raining summer and August is still part of the rainy season for the country. Less typhoons in Visayas and Mindanao compared to Luzon but Visayas is still part of the typhoon belt.

Its already the monsoon season, scattered rains and thunderstorms can be had anywhere. Low pressures are always brewing in the pacific and the china sea waiting to be a typhoon. Typhoon is one great force of nature that one can experience with awe and amazement, Being from a place where typhoon is non existent, its an experience of a lifetime to be felt.

The country is along the typhoon path except for Davao region which is typhoon free. Rain or typhoon is not a deterrent to not enjoy the country as it don't happen every single day. august is not as rainy as june so it's probably going to be drier but still expect some occasional rain showers but that won't ruin your vacation.

You are planning to visit Central Visayas in August? The rainy season lasts from June to October traditionally. There are many storms during that time. Some of them graze the northern fringes of the area you plan to visit. If you are interested in cobing the beaches, the seas may be a bit rougher. Still, there would be less competition for resort/hotel space and plane seats.

Enjoy your visit

Hi,
I have worked with Philippine Airlines for almost 24 years as a flight dispatcher and we used information of the Philippine weather bureau, PAGASA, before we dispatch our flights. August is part of the rainy season and it may not be true that Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Negros, as you were told, are drier than the rest...

It really depends on the position of the "Intertropical Convergence Zone" - a band of clouds now affecting Luzon but may not affect the areas you have mentioned. So it would be best to contact PAGASA for any information on these areas before going on a trip there. Please log on to >> http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/ to view the satellite photo of the Philippines and have an idea where the band of clouds I was referring to affects the areas with rain. Or you can contact them directly for useful tips. Happy trip!

The places you've mentioned are relatively drier in the said month. Although it's rainy season already, there is no guarantee that said places will be spared. Weather is so unpredictable. For up to date information, check with PAGASA. They can, more or less, give you a glimpse or hint of things to come. But, then again, a weather forecast remains to be a forecast until it is realized. Good luck and enjoy!

Weather in the Philippines has become erratic these days like in most parts of the globe. Traditionally, August is the heart of the typhoon so there will be lots of rains. At times, flights need to be cancelled due to inclement weather. Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Negros are island provinces in the central part of the country. Expect rainy weather during your visit just to be on the safe side,

I guess your question's pretty much answered =) yeap, id have to agree, its still a bit rainy that time but given you'll be visiting the Visayas area, the showers aren't gonna be as much. A bit more humid than Manila, though.

I was in Cebu and Bohol early this year and its beautiful no matter what. Hey, if you really appreciate a nice shore and clear waters, that is; So i hope a little rain wont stop you from visiting =)

Try the ff if you have time in Cebu:

- Malapascua (a 2hr drive North of the City) its one of the nicest beach in the region
- Shangri La Mactan (ite super near the airport) great pool, nice shore, beautiful facilities and great food.
- CNT lechon (roasted pork) its one of the best tasting in the country, if you eat red meat =)

In Bohol, we stayed in a small inn called Amarella and its a quiant little hotel with a great view and a small private shore.

Have fun!

Unfortunately, you"ll be hiting The Visayas at the height of the wet season so weather can either be bright and shiny or simply all whole day long when there's a low pressure area. Enjoy the weather though and don't let it bother you.
