When the weather does not help and it rains all day long, it is no use staying at home, we always have to find something to do, and maybe a good recommendation is visiting historic sites of Rio, one of the most impressive is the Sao Bento Monastary, it is a 1576 construction, a beautiful sample of our barroc art...the church is covered by gold, the catholic rituals are all in gregorian chants, and it is a invitation for peace and also a visit to this church take us to the interesting past of Rio de Janeiro.

The English having donated the wrought iron portal gate is the probably a most recent addition to the splendid richness of this baroque church's decor, which is in fact still considered to not be concluded. One can notice the three major epochs it underwent by the former and actual entrance's differences ...

Founded in 1590 by monks from Bahia, the Benedictine Monastery of Rio de Janeiro was built in response to the wishes of the city's early citizens. It is one of the oldest spots of Rio and great witness of our history. In portuguese we call MOSTEIRO DE SÃO BENTO.
I took my friends from Londrina there, and as brazilians like we are, we got very proud, above all to see an accurate attempt to preserve the arts and the whole building of the Monastery!
Gold and Wood Art...The barroc in Brazil is very obvious because of the huge portuguese influence. And in the Monastery of São Bento you can see a massive quantity of arts and this church is famous for its gregorian chant.

It is one of the oldest churches in Rio and there there is also a monastery with several monks living in cloister. The church is Baroque style and it was all gold plated in the past.It is a must see place in Rio , even for the non-religious people due to the beuty of the church inside!!
