Memorial museum of the dark and horrible period of recent Hungarian history. Covers the period of both the Communist terror era and the Holocaust. Historical exhibition of the 1956 revolution. Some contemporary exhibitions on recent Hungarian history. Although the museum is good a little bit one side for my taste, meaning too much of communism not enough about Holocaust history.

It contains exhibits related to the fascist and communist dictatorial regimes in 20th century Hungary and is also a memorial to the victims of these regimes, including those detained, interrogated, tortured or killed in the building. With regard to communism and fascism, the exhibition contains material on the nation's relationships to Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. It also contains exhibits related to Hungarian organisations such as the fascist Arrow Cross Party and the communist ÁVH (which was similar to the Soviet Union KGB secret police). Part of the exhibition takes visitors to the basement, where they can see examples of the cells that the ÁVH used to break the will of their prisoners.

It is definitely the best museum, if you want to have proper information regarding the 50years' soviet regime... Secret police, torture, mass killing, hidden secrets and files of Budapest, Hungary, KGB, the Hungarian political era from the 50's till the 90's... Who? Why? What?

If you interested in history, if you would like to know how the the two biggest dictatorys - kommunism and the nazis - was working you have to visit this authentic building. Authentic because this building was serving both power structures. This place is a living memento for all thousends, who lived their last days, and died here as well.
