It is an Imperial Garden, built in 1808 on the arrival of the King of Portugal in Rio de Janeiro. Did you know that Rio de Janeiro was the only European Capital outside of Europe? When Napoleaon Bonaparte invaded Portugal, the royal court of Portugal settled in the city and it became the capital of the Kingdom of Portugal. In the garden you will find a wide variety of native brazilian plants and wildlife, as well as plants from other continents such as Asia or Africa. It is very big, so be careful not to get yourself lost. I would advise that if you are on a tight schedule, you should problably find one of the tour cars to get around the garden or else you might not have time to see it all.

What a peaceful place to go to!!!There you can enjoy Rio`s nature because it is located right where the biggest urban forest in the world is. Inside you can see beautiful trees and flowers and also some pretty birds, including the Tucan and some Parrots. Not to mention the small monkeys that come very close to you. And for the ones who like Orchids, there is an entire orchidarium for your enjoyment!! You can spend the day there and then sit at the lovely cafeteria right at the entrance and have a bit to eat!!

One day in the botanic Garden is a cool chance for you to learn about Nature, simply to walk with someone you love, or you can use that day with deep meditation. The Botanic Garden is there will make you learn about many different kind of plants and eco-systems. This one is called COROZO, it is a sort of palm tree found in the Amazon Forest, it has long and painful thorns, it is a way that the nature found to protect its precious fruits from predators. We have palm trees like COROZO as well, it is quite common in the forests of Rio. The nuts are very simular to our famous Guaraná Rafael Torres http://donrafaguestsinrio.blogspot.com

One of the world's most splendid botanic gardens, surrounded by the 'real thing' world's largest urban jungle, it contains some specimen of the trees after which the country was named, the world's 2nd largest (after Caracas') orchid collection, the huge Imperial palms, the immense Victoria Regiae on a lake, and much, much more ...
