The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has been there since I was a kid (and that's a while ago now!) It's always been a popular place because it's a chance to get up close and very personal with all sorts of wild creatures, especially the rainbow lorikeets that flock in to be fed. It's fabulous to stand there and have them calmly climb all over you! There's lots more there to see, all sorts of native animals. There are crocodile wetlands, large open areas of free-ranging animals, a walk-through rainforest aviary (largest in the Southern Hemisphere), koalas to cuddle and kangaroos to feed. And I still have an opal ring that my dad bought me from the rock shop! They also re-open at 7.00pm so that you can have a night experience - Wildnight Adventure - two and a half hours of night time exploration, mixing with many of the nocturnal animals that are not seen during the day. Animal shows run right throughout the day and an Aboriginal dance troupe also shares stories from one of the world’s longest surviving cultures. http://www.cws.org.au/
