The Kelani River which starts at the foot of Adams Peak flows through Hatton and wends its way through the tea plantations in Watawela and Ginigathhena and comes down to Yatiyantota and Kitulgala. It is here that the river takes it's majestic beauty and today it is the home to many a white water rafter in the country. The river is unique as at this point it is neither deep or shallow and is the ideal setting for so many sports loving tourists who gather to indulge in this sport .

Kelani River being the fourth longest river in Sri Lanka plays many important roles. It supplies approx 80% of the Colombo City's water supply. It is used for sand mining and transportation of Bamboo and Wood Logs down the River. Up river, one can enjoy canoeing and white water rafting.

The Kelani River (Sinhala: Kelani Ganga) is a145 km (90 mi) long river in Sri Lanka. Ranking as the fourth longest river in the country, it stretches from the Sri Pada Mountain Range to Colombo. It covers approximately 80% of the water supply to Colombo. In addition to that, the river is used for transport, fisheries, sewage disposal, sand mining and for production of hydroelectricity. White water rafting is the most interesting activity here.
