Mapo Hall is the colonial style city hall, perched on top of Mapo Hill, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria
An historic hall, that has been in existence since 1929
an historical heritage bequeathed by the Colonial masters to the people of Ibadan
Mapo Hall competes effectively in terms of age and architectural design. The hall's construction commenced in June 1925 and the only structure with similar sense of antiquity is the famous Buckingham Palace in London. Interestingly, both edifices were built by the same contractor.
This hall is a very sacred place as far as the Ibadan people is concerned. It is an ancient hall built sometimes inthe colonial era. However, it has been renovated to a modern hall. it is situated on the top of a hill. from the hall, you can virtually view the whole of Ibadan city. it is indeed an historical place. it is close to the Olubadan's palace.
ABOUT a century ago, and to be specific, July 1925, Captain W.A. Ross, laid the foundation stone of the imposing Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the... then capital city of the Western Region. mapo hall was was then used by then colonial masters after independence it was used as Ibadan city council. it also became a rallying point for all political rally.Mapo hall situated right in the centre of the city of Ibadan on a hill top called oke mapo.when on top of mapo u can see the entire city. it is a beautiful site to behold
