Prior to the founding of the State of Israel, Machon Ayalon was an underground munitions factory that provided bullets to the Hagana. In order to keep this endeavor secret it was established underneath a laundry and a bakery. This necessitated constructing both the bakery and the laundry in such a way that the heavy equipment could be moved to reveal the trap door entrance to the factory.
The factory operated right under the noses of the British and was successful in insuring a steady supply of munitions to the Israelis fighting for their freedom and for the establishment of the State of Israel.
A visit to Machon Ayalon includes a film and a guided tour of the underground factory. The tour will show and explain the measure necessary to keep the factory secret and its workers safe.

The Ayalon Institute is one of Israel hidden gems - making history come to life it's a fun place for young and old alike. With shaded areas to rest on hot days as well as a great hall for daytime celebrations or ceremonies, this is a good stop for those who have been to Israel before and on the first trip.
