The beerhouse from Stavropoleos Street is a traditional place, where each object has its own story. It is one of the few places in Bucharest where it seems that nothing has changed, and the architecture reminds, to the ones who step into, why Bucharest was once considered to be the little Paris. Along with the beer made after a secret original recipe, Caru' cu bere is also famous for the tastiest culinary recipes.

Caru’ cu bere (literally The Beer Wagon) is a famous Bavarian style restaurant placed in the very heart of Bucharest, built in 1879 and renovated in 1992. One hundred years ago the Caru’ cu Bere was where the old aristocracy of Bucharest gathered. Famous men of letters, playwrights, poets and actors met here. This sparkling environment was later recreated and so the restaurant has preserved its atmosphere and reputation over the years. The Caru’ cu Bere is open seven days a week. It has live music every day and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings a well known folk-song and dance ensemble serenades customers with traditional Romanian music and entertainment. Appetizing traditional dishes are on offer, local wines are served and, of course, there is beer, plenty of beer.

It's the place to go to for every tourist; the architecture is impressive, the decorations send you back to the Golden Age of Bucharest and most of the food is truly Romanian and very well cooked. They even brew their own beer. Be careful, however, to book in advance, especially on weekends or if you're a larger group and keep in mind that the portions are quite small. Hope you enjoy it:)

Very good authentic food, exceptional service, great atmosphere and best of all situated in a building that is a history landmark. It is also quite nice that it is in the old part of Bucharest, and you can walk along the old streets and grab a nice cup of coffee while enjoying the bustle of the city centre. Do make a reservation before hand, as in the summer period it gets quite full. One day ahead should be enough.

Here you can taste our traditional food at affordable prices. It is not only a place for dining, but also a place to visit for its interesting Gothic architecture. It may remind you of the beer halls in Munich. During evening you can assist to different shows: traditional dance and music.

Hey, This is a wonderful place. Great food, great atmosphere. The food is not expensive and it's delicious. Each night you will be delighted with mini concerts or with all kinds of dancing. The waiters are very respectful and polite...If you will get there you must try the Bean soup with smoked bacon served in bread bowl and of course..the Romanian wine...

The food is really good and you can eat authentic dishes. The atmosphere is great, the prices are OK and every night there is an artistic program: for example, the last time I went, it was folklore night, so 2 pairs of professional dancers brightened up the place by performing representative Romanian dances. Nevertheless, I love the ballroom and Latin dance night: that is a must see! And of course, as its name says ("bere" is the Romanian equivalent for beer), it serves great beer :D! The architecture is superb, using an old style to remind its visitors of a glamorous epoch and send them back in time, for a little while. I recommend going to Caru' cu bere, which is situated in the historical center of Bucharest, so you get to combine great food and atmosphere with a sight of what was representative for the Little Paris of the East!

In the evening is a crowded place, in week-end they don`t do reservations. The service is a little bit slow, but if your are not in a hurry, it is OK. Traditional Romanian and international cuisine, the prices are not very high, comparing with other restaurants. If you are in Bucharest, you must go there to Lunch or Dinner.

128 years of tradition Caru’ cu Bere, a true living legend and also one of the oldest beerhouse in Bucharest, was opened for the first time in 1879 in the old Zlatari inn and, after 20 years it moved to Stavropoleos Street, where it can be found even today. Nicolae Mircea along with his family, originary from Medias, had a major role in Caru' cu Bere history. He managed along the years to make of Caru' cu Bere one of the most appreciated divertisment places from Bucharest. The beerhouse from Stavropoleos Street is a traditional place, where each object has its own story. It is one of the few places in Bucharest where it seems that nothing has changed, and the architecture reminds, to the ones who step into, why Bucharest was once considered to be the little Paris. The mural paintings, the stained glasses and the carved cross-beams are distinctive elements of the beerhouse. The old time party spirit is still present in these days, the atmosphere reminding of Bucharest's exuberance from the XXth century beginnings. The place's symbol is Old Ghita, whose silhouette guards even today the right cross-beam. Old Ghita, the cellar man, worked some dozens of years within Caru cu Bere, moving up and down the stairs to the cellar cram-full with wine and beer barrels together with its unseparable lantern. The pub's party atmosphere attracted along the years many important personalities. One of the most faithful clients of „ Neculai Mircea's beerhouse”, as his Transylvanian fellows used to call him, was George Cosbuc or uncle Gheorghe for the close ones, who felt like home in Neculai's beerhouse. Uncle George often met with Octavian Goga, I.L.Caragiale, Iancu Brezeanu and other friends in Caru' cu Bere. Along with the beer made after a secret original recipe, Caru' cu bere is also famous for the tastiest culinary recipes. For a long time house specialty was considered to be hot dogs with horseraddish, of wich tonnes were consumed every day, and for the gratered horseraddish many waiters generations wiped. The Frankfurters, boeuf salad, black radish and olives offered for free along with the wine bottle created for many people a pleasant addiction. But no one complained, on the contrary! Nowadays Caru cu Bere has the goal to revive a tradition.
