This area is perfect place for visit all year long. In winter you can experience great conditions for skiing and you can also try the sledge ride, which is lot of fun. Area is really close to Poland, which means that you can connect the trip with visiting another country of EU. Over summer this are is just great for bike trips or for a nice hike. All year you can enjoy quite nice accommodation for really decent price in mountain cottage U tří medvědů (At Three Bears), which belongs to one of my friends, who will definitely give you special care if you mention my name. This place does not have its own dining but close to there you can enjoy the really traditional Czech cuisine in the traditional restaurant over the street for friendly prices. If you like it there definitely let me know or before you go there feel free to contact me and I will contact the owners and we might have some fun in the mountains together with my beautiful and friendly Colombian wife who might prepare something special to experience Latino cuisine... ;-)

There are a variety of places to ski in Czech, and they are much less money, and generally less crowds than the Austrian and Swiss Alpine resorts. Of course they are not as big, but you can still have a nice little trip an hour or two from Prague, specifically in Dešné v Orlických horách. A cottage can be rented quite inexpensively or hotel rooms are usually availible with little notice. Lift tickets are around $15 per half and $30 per full day.
