Well, you can have the same food for less money but take it from me, this is the only place where you can get the service that makes you want to go back every day. I've had several opportunities to have lunch there and it's just perfect. I cannot mention one thing that was wrong about it the only thing that can actually be better than having lunch there is having dinner, at night the entire palce looks as if it was only waiting for you even if all the tables are occupied.
By far, the best place in the entire city if you want to have a tipical meal.

Nice place BUT overpriced, I found out that exactly the same food (very well prepared) cost HALF in other turistic places as well. for example in Colonia del Sacramento you can try a parrilla for two persons for 230$, and the same parrilla for two (almost as good) for 400$
Some times is it worth to ask for half portion.
Check the bill, at Mercado del puerto sometimes they (the waiters) (not the owners) will try to add things that you did not included or will give you a faked bill....just ask for your bill and check every thing you ordered.
Appart from that it is a very nice place with good food. And nice atmosfere. Enjoy!
Ask for medio y medio...

A group of cultural restaurants worth visiting if you enjoy beef and other meats. You will find a range of prices, and can have a business meal or a familiar one. Usually no shows, although during the day you may hear the sound of candombe, a unique music by Uruguayan black people using wood tambourines.

BBQ King of Montevideo near the port at the east side of the Port's Market. Beef and also Fish here are excellent. Great place to meet with a bunch of friends, taste the local BBQ at its best and walk from there to the historic buildings of Old Town Montevideo.
