Theatro Municipal has recently reopened after almost two years under reform. It has really paid off! the building looks like brand new and the agenda is full of spectacles. They are pulling atractions to everyone, from classical music to a ballet. The arquiteture of the building is amazed. Go there during weeknights.

The Municipal Theatre is the most important Opera House in Rio de Janeiro, it´s luxurious and was opened in 1909, took four years to be built, located near the National Library and National Museum of Fine Arts, the theater has great staircase in Carrara marble at the entry and has a crystal chandelier in the ceiling with details in gold, which reminds us the theater of Paris, in its outside facade has a symbol of a great eagle with outstretched wings, and the capacity is for 2,200 people, and there you can see ballet, orchestra and choir, the theater underwent a major refurbishment and is readynow to open ,

Inspired by the Paris Opera House, the Municipal Theater reflects the ecletic early 20th century architectural style. Marble staircases with onyx handrails, sculptures by Rodolfo Bernadelli, and paintings by italian artist Eliseu Visconti complement the grand space which has a seating capacity of 2.400. Guided tours of the theater are available on Thrusday, Friday and Saturdays, from 10 to 11:30 a.m and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Price: R$ 10,00 and for students and seniors R$ 5,00. Quite dominating in it's beauty, yet blending in fantastically, especially now after the restoration process is nearing it's conclusion, this makes a visit to Rio's downtown complete. If one gets to see the inside ... wow!!! Get to see the opera "O Guaraní" here, must be a life's goal for everyone!!!!! The neighboring impressive Museum of Fine Arts, the great National Library, are even dwarfed by the Theater's immensity.

This is , as far as I am concerned, the most beautiful building in the city, as to its Glamour and imponence, specially now that it went through a complete renovation. It resembles a lot the one form Paris, " Le Garnier". It is a must see place in the center of tpwn, also surounded by some other interesting and remarkable buildings form different times and styles of architecture, like the National Library, The Museum of Fine Arts and so on...
