I have been going to this beautiful cafe for many years since I live a few blocks from the place and I love the atmosphere. You can quietly sip a great cup of expresso or other coffe varieties that they offer. You can also have lunch at the place at very good prices. The cafe is decorated with a lot of old pictures from artists and politicians that have frequented the place. Uruguayayn famous writer Enrique Galeano goes there very often in the mornings.

Charming café. One of the oldest around. Live music on various nights. Catch Eduardo Galeano some mornings. Right around the corner from Plaza Matriz, a classic attraction. Watch the beautiful colonial architecture and visit the industrial port on the way to the ferry and some of the largest portico cranes in the world.

The place has been there for long, I guess since 1920, so now looks like an antique, we can sit for a decent snack and a very good cup of cofee while you look all those very busy people going by because is in the Cuidad Vieja (banking and judicial center).
Also has good internet conectivity (been there with my laptop), just ask the waiter where to sit in order to avoid moving around.
