Hi, I recomend to change your US dollars at Mexico airport (best rates than most banks) stick with using pesos all the time, the only places dollars are accepted are hotels and some restaurants anyway, and they´ll give you not a good rate.
Also, ATM machines will give pesos at a resonable rate but with a ATM fee...just try to have pesos all the time!
Have fun in Mexico!
Well in Baja and the border cities you can get away with dollars everywhere. If you are going to Cabo a lot of places don't even want to see pesos.

Bottom line is it depends on the exchange rate. Right now it is kicking at about 13 to 1, usually it hovers at around 10 or 11. I would defnitely spend pesos.

If you speak any spanish you can go to the little dive bars or restaurants/shops and use your pesos they stretch very far.

When you get to mainland mexico outside of Baja and the border everything is in pesos, so you will need them
dollars are already accepted in most countries,Mèxico is`nt an exception. But...the type of change related to pesos (the kind of changing people of some places does here) could be unexact..as an example little shops. I recomend you bring the money in dollars and once here changing em into pesos, it it`s also a good decision because you will have more capacity to spend in pesos than paying in dollars cause people in shops recibes dollars cheaper than type of changing banks or money exchange places do.

Another important stuff: Where exactly are you planning to arrive? i its a beach? city?...in some places as beaches using dollars its more usual, I mean, totally touristic places...

MMm.. if you arrive and want to know if some prices in pesos are o.k. you can do some questions here or in my msn is:

my cellular phone where I can respond in one minute an answer in a short text message:

so..I hope you enjoy comming to Mèxico.
Hola, YES the US Currency is acceptable in Mexico, in fact it will give you MORE NEGOTION!!! trust me, I own a business!
But one thing to make sure, before you leave make sure your bank will give you "New Bills" if there is a crack or tear on the side of the bill, a lots of places will not take!!!
Take smaller size bills, that way you have your own change, and they do not give you back pesos, ( since is less). Good Luck!!!
definitively you must change your currencies to national currency, it is but I practice and you would forget the mathematical financiers to enjoy your vacations completely. it receives an affectionate greeting… my personal mail is:
In Cancun and along the Riviera Maya... definately, but there are a few things to note !!!
Make sure that none of the Bills are damaged in any way or written on or you may have problems using it.
Bring Notes that are smaller than $100.00 USD as these are not accepted in many places - I guess these are most often counterfeit.
Be prepared to accept your change in Pesos, and watch the Exchange Rate... currently in Cancun it varies between 12.5 & 14.5 depending on what you are buying.
Instead of bringing lots of USD with you, just use your ATM card and only take out what you need.... you'll get a better exchange rate through the ATM more often than not.
If you want to change the Dollars to Pesos at a bank, remember to bring your Passport with you, as they are getting really strict on this at the moment (Speaking from Experience).
Good Luck and enjoy Yourself.

Hi! The US dollar is accepted in many places around Mexico but you SHOULDNT pay in dollars, you see, in my honest opinion (and sad too) the Mexican peso has dropped a lot against the dollar so if you change your dollars to pesos youll be getting a great deal just try to exchange ONLY the amount of money you need, because if you have more pesos that you need, when you try to change them back you will lose some of your initial money, places where dollars are accepted, WILL NOT give you a good exchange rate, so you will end up losing either way stick to pesos but only the ones you need,
u can use them most of all in Cancun but its so much better if u cange them at the airport, people may take them as cheaper, like if it is 15 pesos they can take it as 13 pesos or even 10
Airport is the best option to change. But think plastic, it's always better not to have too much money with you and visit an ATM once in a while, which offers you good rates as well.
One of the best tips that any one can give you is to bring your dollars in to México and change them here.
Now, you have to keep in mind that for example here in the Riviera Maya most of the tours and attractions are quoted in American dollars, so ill be nice if you can keep some American currency to pay your activities in dollars.
All make an example for you.
Lets say that you are going to buy a tour that the price its 100usd
If you pay in dollars you know its going to be 100usd right.
If you already change your dollars in to pesos let say that at the exchange house they gave you a rate of 14.5 pesos per dollars so your 100 usd will be $1450 pesos.
And when you go to buy the tour they are going to tell you that the exchange rate is 15 pesos per dollars so they will charge you $1500 pesos for the tour.
That means that you will be paying $50 pesos more than if you pay it in dollars, that its 3.45 usd more than the regular price in dollars.
I know it’s not a lot but some people like to save that 3.45 usd for tips.
Change your Us dollars at the airport, better to have PESOS And wherever you go i mean tourist zones, you can find it close.
On the Baja you can use your dollars in all locations. Hotels, restaurants, stores, tiendas etc. You may not receive change back in dollars though. You get the best rate of exchange at the Bancomer Bank. You need your passport to change money. When you pay in dollars at a store they do not have to give you the bank exchange rate.
