If you're going to San Francisco, you can expect to pay around $1,000 for a room. That is probably on the higher end of things, but it should get you a room in a good safe place. Your best bet for finding a place is probably craigslist...San Francisco has an insanely active community there.
thanks a lot))
and what's with rent prices in Chicago?))
Dane, prices are all over the board depending on where in the US you will be. As Tyler said, craigslist.org is a bulletin board with prices for rentals all over the world. You can check city by city for rental rates. San Francisco, New York, and Honolulu are likely the highest priced cities in the country for room rents. There are student exchange programs where you live with a family too.
You could expect to find a room in San Diego for somewhere between $350 and $700 a month. The problem is that San Diego is a very big place, and you'd want to be as close to where you're working or studying as possible. Also, the price of everything is higher in the summer. I have to agree with what other people have said: look at for the cities you're most interested in. Then compare the most interesting listings with a map of where you want to be. Good luck!
