If you are by the National Zoo, I recommend Two Amys (website) as a great place for kids. If you are downtown in the Chinatown area, Matchbox Pizza (website) is also a great kid friendly option. DC also has several yummy burger joints (Five Guys, Good Stuff Eatery, Elevation Burger, Ray’s Hell Burger). These places may be considered “fast food” but your typical McDonald’s they are not! If your family is adventurous, the city is also filled with tons of cheap ethnic food options including peruvian, el salvadoran, thai, greek, chinese, japanese, ethiopian, malaysian, etc. – the options are endless!
Bombay Cafe in Fairfax, VA -- $5 buffet dinner

Champps in Pentagon City -- 1/2 off burgers on Mondays

Whitlow's on Wilson in Arlington, VA -- 1/2 off burgers on Mondays

Tara Thai, McLean, VA -- $5 appetizers and $3 bar drinks (weekdays
from 5 - 7 pm)

Capital Lounge in Downtown DC -- $0.10 chicken wings Mondays
While downtown or by the Mall, check out some of the mobile food vendors. This is one of the latest trends in the DC area. These aren't your typical hotdog stand! These mobile restaurants post their location online via twitter, facebook, etc. and and provide delicious inexpensive eats!
