We have a range of programs which you can participate in. Such areas are as following .
Children program :In this program, you have the opportunity to help children in need. Children who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS, children who have been abused by their parents and children whose parents are not able to provide for them. These children need love, attention, life skills and education so they can have successful futures free from poverty and filled with the same opportunities like others. When working on this program, you will be a mentor by becoming a big brother or sister to children in children's home. You will work alongside local staff to help with classroom teaching and homework help, childcare, and daily operational running of the home. Volunteers are also encouraged to initiate their own work by organizing art and crafts, music, dance, games, sports activities and day trips for the children.
Medical/Health program :It is possible to volunteer at a Medical Clinic and Maternity Services. This is a community-based clinic in the Kibera slum in Nairobi and it helps the community living around Kibera area. You will work with local doctors and nurses to assist with the daily medical routine -applying dressings,
prescribing medication, recording patient history, patient consultations and counselling patients. You can also work in the areas of maternal health and
Teaching program : In this program, you have the opportunity to assist with teaching at primary levels. You will teach subjects, such as English, mathematics, science, social sciences, and can initiate extra-curricular activities. Untrained volunteer can get placement at preschool where they teach Basic English skills and carry out basic childcare duties.
Farming program : Volunteers have opportunities to assist with farm work in the country side e.g., cattle milking, digging, crop planting, grazing etc
HIV / AIDS program : In this program you will work in a community HIV / AIDS organization to assist with decrease the spread of HIV through raising awareness, homecare visit to HIV positive people, educate about safe sex practice, counsel community and providing emotional support to those infected by the virus within the community. Medical training is necessary or a background in HIV /AIDS and basic health care.
Masai Land program : It is estimated that less than half of all Masai children attend schools. Volunteers who can teach are urgently needed to help reverse this trend. Volunteers have the opportunity to educate children at primary school level. Subjects taught include English, Mathematics, Science, and social. Volunteers are also encouraged to initiate extra-curricular activities.
The location of this programs is Nairobi, Nyahururu, Nanyuki, Masai land, Muranga and Nyeri.
The volunteer opportunities cost:
US $ 600 for 2 weeks
US $ 700 for 3 weeks
US $ 800 for 4 weeks
US $1000 for 6 weeks
Us $1200 for 8 weeks
US $1400 for 10 weeks
US $1600 for 12 weeks
US $2000 for 16 weeks
US $2400 for 20 weeks
US $2800 for 24 weeks,
Above cost will cater for:
-Meet and greet pick up from Jomo Kenyatta International airport
-Transfer after pick up to a Nairobi Hotel on Full Board for 1st night
-Day 2 orientation
-On the afternoon of day 2 transfer to assigned placement and accommodation
-Place with a friendly host family or in a volunteer house during the weeks of placement
-Provided with food-breakfast and evening meals prepared by the host family, if accommodation is at a volunteer house, the meals will be prepared by our cook,
-Drop off to Jomo Kenyatta international airport to catch flight back home after completion of the placement.

My name is Chris Muriithi,you can volunteer at our Children orphanage called St Pauls Children care center just 16 km south of Nairobi,The home is in a Village called Embul bul near Kare Shopping center.We host over 70 kids who are orphaned and destitute.We also have a primary school where all the small kids attend school.We do also have a five acre farm where we grow food for the home.we have self contained twin beds accommodation within the center and so volunteers live with the kids.We have IT room and a library where you can help teach the kids.In short we would love to see you at our home and the kids would be very happy.It cost only Kes 700 a day FB.This money goes to the well being of the center and the kids.Thank you and you are most welcome.Chris

Another major challenge is the issue of drug and substance abuse amongst the youth who in most cases fall into this trap due to issues like poverty,death of parents hence lack parental care and guidance and of course peer pressure. Encouraging such youths would help a great deal to deal with some of the problems they encounter day in day out.
To help this community effectively you need assistance from relevant groups within and without the slum. Within the slum are women groups,youth groups,self-help groups,project groups,various NGOs and even governmental organizations such as the chiefs and DOs. Without the slum are the general public and well-wishers.
