Campsite recommendations in Yosemite NP
Hi Sandy, I am traveling to San Fran Fri-Mon, July 9th-12th, then driving out to Yosemite NP by noon on Monday to hopefully find a campsite for a tent Mon & Tuesday nights.
I know the sites in Yosemite Village will be booked up early, so which other site in the park do you recommend I try? I have White Wolf, Crane Flat & Tamarack Flat on my list. I will be going solo and driving a regular sedan.
Country: United States
I don't think they allow tourists to spend over night in Yosemite area anymore, but I could be wrong. Only residents.
Tuolumne Meadows is less crowded but colder as it is on the northern rim (not in the valley).
July in Yosemite means all campgrounds will be filled. Some are reserved ahead of time, some sites are first-come, first-served, and these will go early each day. The sooner in the day you can get to the park, the better your chances of finding something. Coming from SF, first try Hodgdon Meadow, just inside the entrance. Next up the hill is Crane Flat. Third, go up Tioga Road 3 miles and turn right to follow the 1874 wagon road 3 bumpy miles to Tamarack Flat Campground. There is no campground office/kiosk or ranger on duty here, so it's a self-service matter of cruising around to look for an open space. It's a very nice, quiet place to camp.
