Question

Hello, We are from Hong Kong and will be going to Cairo for 7 days in July! We are budget travellers and would like to seek advice...

...on the trip planning. These are the places we interested and the draft schedule: - Day 1 (arrived in morning): Cairo Museum + Khan al-Khalili Market - Day 2: Giza + Saqqara Pyramids - Day 3: Cairo -> Luxor (Temples) - Day 4: Luxor (Valley of the Kings) - Day 5: Luxor (Sahara) -> Hurghada - Day 6: Hurghada (Red Sea) -> Cairo - Last Day: Cairo - depart at night Are there any places we shouldn't miss? And would it be a tight schedule? We have been lucky to get hosted by an Egyptian in Cairo, but for Luxor and Hurghada, are there any tips for youth hostels and or others? Many thanks and we are really excited for Egypt!!

Answers

Dear Mr. Patrick

First of let me welcome you in Egypt hopping you spent a great vacation

Concerning your question:

1- Cairo Day 1

Very great that you are hosted by someone in Cairo , regarding the visits of the first day I would add you beside what you mentioned a visit to one of the Mosques in Cairo like Alabaster Mosque (Mohamed Ali Mosque) is the same one located in the citadel of Saladin or Sultan Hasan Mosque located at the same area of the first one (5 min. in car)

According to your arrival time maximum going out from the airport at 10:00 P.M. you can do the next order of visits – Start with the mosque followed by the Khan El Khalili Market (at the morning there is less tourists) so you can enjoy it more , time for lunch and ending by the visit to the Egyptian Museum (close at 19:00 and last entry at 18:00)

1- Cairo Day 2

The visits you mentioned in your question are perfect and do not forget to visit Memphis ( at the same area of Saqqara (10 Min in car)

• Transportation and Guides in Cairo

I would recommend a lot that you move in a Privet Tourism Badge Air Condition Car in company of English Speaking Guide and this will cost you 70 to 75 US$ as total for the car and the guide , so if you are 2 people it will be 35 to 37.5 US$ each for the whole day

Of course if you want to move in taxi and by your own you can but I do recommend the first option as the taxis and personal cars in many if the cases are not allowed to take you till the touristic area as in the Market of El Khalili they leave you outside and sometimes you lose a lot of time looking for your car , or in the Citadel they must leave you very outside which is a loss of accumulated time , there is many other negative points I ll sent it to you if you decide by the end move in taxi.

To be continued
thank you Jack for your detailed answer!! it will be a good reference to me!
