Hi. There are the Sterkfontein caves which are about 10km from Krugersdorp. It is a series of magnificent caves, with tours and different experiences. It is part of a world heritage site, and I would imagine children would really enjoy it. Another great place would be Bakubang or Kwa Maritane in the Pilansberg. They provide accomodation and are situated in a game reserve. Sun City is next door, with transfers available from both hotels.

Hello Rada, I concur with the reply above. The Sterkfontein caves are a good bet and the Pilanesburg game reserve is awesome with lots of places to stay with the Lost city complex nearby.
If you are prepared to extend further outward visiting Eastern Mapumalanga will be truly WOW! This will take you a little beyond your 300km range but you get to see the Mpumlanga highlands, the Sudwala caves, a variety of spectacular waterfalls, rustic Pelgrims Rest, God's window. Stay over in the beautiful town of Hazywiew and get to experience the extraordinary beauty of this area.
I hope this helps?

Hi there,
In the Gauteng area:
The Johannesburg Zoological Gardens, Gold Reef City, Sterkfontein Caves, the Lion Park, Lover's Rock Resort, De Wildt Cheetah Centre and Sun City = all places kids should have lots of fun.
Further a field in Mpumalanga:
The Kruger National Park with a guide, Maholoholo and Kapama Animal Sanctuaries, Blyderiver Forever Resort are all places the kids should love. I do not agree with taking them to Pilgrim's Rest as over the years I've taken many groups there and the kids always semmed to look bored out of their wits. If you are into horseback exploration, the area also offers weekend trips at Kaapsche Hoop and then there are the Sabie Horse trials which are well worth while. A lot more expensive is Elephant Whispers, just outside of Hazyview, where one and all can interact with Elephants.
Visit my website at and see if anything there catches your fancy.
Warmest Regrds and happy hunting.

HAve you tried Howick and Underberg areas.?
Hi Rada

I think the answers provided should give you enough already.I should just mention that you may also want to look at the Waterberg area. There are a few lovely holiday spots just 2 hours drive from Johannesburg, such as Welgevonden Game Reserve and the spas and resorts near Modimolle will be exciting for the kids. Further North along the N1 past Polokwane lies the town of Louis Trichardt at the foothills of the Soutpansberg. Further East of Polokwane there's a region called the Wolkberg Wilderness area, including Magoebaskloof. There are so many wonderful places to visit in both these regions. If you need more detailed information I'll be happy to provide.
Hi, there is a place called Glen Afrique, nice place for wild life and lunches.
I have a question for you? What do the kids enjoy doing? Boy's or girls.
Gold Reef City Theme Park has an abundance of adventures rides, it won’t be long before you’ll be drawn to the squeals of delight!
From the skyline, the Giant Wheel, Anaconda and Tower of Terror will beckon; join the young at heart and test-drive these or any of the more than thirty adrenaline-boosting rides.

I would recommend the Emerald Casino and Resort for accommodation and as a launch pad to the other areas such as the Gold Reef City, that is if the Emerald itself is not sufficient (which I doubt by the way), please check out their website for full info
Well we offer the widest range of things and activities that i know of. The Savannah lodge,on a game farm next to the Vaal river. Exxxxxxelent scenery and a lot of things to do.
